21819, KABOOOMMMMM!

today at 745pm eastern time after killing a modded fox body it went. And it went with a bang. Rounded bout 100mph when all of a sudden I hear a boom and bluish white smoke coming out of the exhuast. And everytime I give it gas more smoke comes out. I pulled over and looked in the engine bay and find oil everywhere! I didn't have a crankcase breather so oil sprayed everywhere. Talking to Dino now and find that it's gonna cost 2000 in parts. It'a very sad sad day. now I must learn how to do this. What a better time. Condolences are welcome. I'm crying inside and I need my fellow members to stand by me as I weep like a little bitch. People please monitor your guages while boosting. I must go do my research and be aware of more stupid questions and comments by me. Hey Dave.....ditto....haha.

What happened exactly... boost creep?... too lean?... weak internals?

Damn man that sucks. I am going through the same thing so I know exactly how you feel. I just borrowed some money and hopefully in about 2 weeks my car will be better than ever. Dont let it get you down. After all its just a car.

That sucks man. How many pounds of boost were you running? Good luck with the rebuild.

Dave how much is this gonna cost you and what are you planning to get done. I was boosting between 7-8psi and I think it was because of weak internals. You can't go too crazy on the high way. I need advice and comments and what to do now. Anyone else done the engine work themselves? How hard is it and is it possible to do it without taking the engine out? Nitrouseclipse you and your dad will only charge 1000 for taking apart the block, reassembing it with the rebuild kit and doing all the other good stuff?

Sometimes the gauges just don't help: When i blew, all my readouts were fine. Of course, that doesn't always mean that knock isn't occuring, and after so much knock inducted stress, brittle cast pistons will crack no matter what the gauges say.

DSMRoadster: Build it yourself. Buy the rebuild kit (or the stroker from Howell :thumbsup), pull the motor yourself (it ain't that hard), have the machinework done, and build it. Download the 420A rebuild manual from the link in my sig (might be slow), read it, and go. When it comes to nuts and bolts, it isn't as difficult as you might think!

I can't find any info on the stroker kit. I only see info on the bottom end kit and top end kit. Is the instructions on pulling the motor in the manual or is it under another file name?

You'll have to call for info on the stroker - it is a recent development and hasn't been posted on thier webpage yet.

The removal info should be in the 420A_overhaul_manual.pdf file linked to in my sig. If it is not, people on the board can help you. :D

im sure its been asked before.. but, does the stroker kit come with everything needed for a rebuild? im planning on gettin a kit sometime in the near future, but i have close to 130k on my car now, and im thinking that a rebuild might have to come before the kit... from what ive been reading on the kit, it sounds great and theres nothing like having a bullet proof engine before adding boost.. any help? tia

So far I have spent $2000. The mechanic that is pulling my engine and putting it all back together is charging me $900. The rebuild kit was $1100 from howell automotive. I still need to buy a head gasket and the timing belt and a water pump plus the machine shop bill. All together its going to be around $2500-$2600 is what I am guessing.
