Anyone seen or use the new Programmable DIS-2 from MSD? It look pretty bad. You can control Individual Cylinder Timing, Launch Timing Curve, Boost Timing Curve, Multi-Step Retard, Gear RPM and Retards, Three Rev Limits. Wonder is we can use this unit on our cars. Go check it out and tell me what you guys think. If you go to MSD's web site you will see a link to it on the left. It says MSD Digital.

i have one, it is cool, individual cylinder timing is possible, but you need a seperate cam sync sensor as well as map sensor for boost dependant retard. i have not yet explored all the functions but i like it. the unit is even smaller than the regular dis-2 and it is really easy to install. i like it, oh ya summit has it for the cheapest i found $419

I have it. You cant' do individual cylinder manageme ton our cars becaue we use a wasted spark ignition (2 spark plugs fire at the same time). the best you could do would be to control 2 at a time, but you would still need the extra sensor.

Is says it works with a car equiped with the DIS4 system. Wonder if it will work with the DIS2.

wait a second, i thought we could do individual cylinder timing. the sensor just tells when cylinder 1 is at tdc, and then the unit takes it from there. it is a dis2, for distributorless ignition, i think most of these systems are wasted spark. OR i could be completely wrong and shooting this stuff out my butt =)

I just called MSD.
you can do individual cylinder timing on our cars. you just need the cam sync pickup sensor. the unit takes over from there.

MSD tech are completel idiots, and I woudl not trust anythign they say. they were the ones that told me the BTM could retard timing up to 30 psi of boost (it can't), that th ebtm coudl plug up directly to th edis-2 harness (it can't, you have to "make" and adaptor), that the programable dis could only retart up to 15 psi of booost (it controlls up to 30) and that it didnt' need an external map sensor (it does), and they also told me that th eindividual blaster coils wouldn't worn on my car (they work great). those guys ar eth emost brain dead tech support guys I have ever had the dis-pleasure of talking to. you can only control 2 cylinders at a time on out cars. That is why it is called wasted spark. that is why we only have 2 coil trigger wires instead of 4. #1 and 4 fire at the same time, adn when #4 NEEDS to fire, #1 fires also on the exhaust stroke for that cylinder. that helps burn off excess waste, but doesn't really make power. it is a "wasted" spark. same for cylinders 2 and 3. in the instruction manual for the programable dis-2, they tell you you can not control individual cylinders with wasted spark because there is no way of telling if cylinder 1 or 4 is firing. you would be able to retard2 at a time, or if you had a 2 cyl (liek a harley or something with a hopped up distributorless ignition) you could retard each cylinder seperately, because there would only be 1 cylinder per coil lead. but no, you can't control individual cylinder management with wasted spark ignitions. if you hac a dar with direct/sequential fire ignition, then you could.
