A wastegate is whats bleeds off exhaust gas. When you get to the desired boost (say 7 psi when you have a 7 psi spring) the wastegate opens and lets some exhaust pass so the turbo doesn't just keep spinning and make infinate boost.

now my question 2 you is, can we replace the internal wastage on the hahn kit with the external wastegate kit rre sells? and has anyone done this on our motor?

You would need a new down pipe setup to go with an external wastegate.

You can turn an internally gated turbo into an externally gated one. It requires removing the flapper and closing up the hole where it was (how ever you want to do it ... block off plate, welding shut). What I belive to be the larger problem is that you will have to modify the manifold so that it supports an external gate. Most cases it means new manifold. You'll have to weld a pipe and flange for the appropriate gate you'll be using.

thura is right I did this many of times in cali. It isnt that hard but you need the right rod for welding cast. The flab can be welded in place but the debate you run into is weather to dump the exh gas or route it back into the exhaust. late mike
