2145, Are 550cc injectors overkill?? Posted by dsm1, Feb-26-01 03:12 PM
Hey guys,
I recently came across a shop in my area(tampa bay, fl)that specializes with DSM's anyways he has 550's for 360.00, is this to much for the s-afc to trim down? I'm not to sharp with all the fuel formulas that grace this board to figure it out myself,so i'm askin the next best source...you guys! I'm going to boost around 7-9 daily on stock internals for the time being, so the million dollar question is 550cc's good or 440cc's better? Thanks for your help.

That really depends on your setup. The whole thing is figuring out what your injector size is and how much fuel pressure you will need to run in order to meet fuel requirements, but not exceed. With those 550cc injectors you may have to run as low as a 3:1 ratio fmu for proper fuel pressure. (i.e) On your stock setup you are running a 12:1 fmu with stock 230cc injectors.
Additionally since that is a DSM specialty shop, and the 4G6 being the popular motor. Those injectors will not fit your car if they are for the 4G63!

Those injectors are for the 4G63T, but the guy said it would be no problem to get 440cc for the 420a that most of you guys use from RC for about the same price. The local speed shop has a s-afc I can get pretty cheap. Can I hook up the AFC now while i'm still n/a or should i wait till i'm turbo and have the 440's?

You can hook up the SAFC now while you are still NA. I did the same and just kept the settings at zero. You can use monitor mode to make sure everything is hooked-up correctly. If it happens you install it incorrectly, better you find out before the SAFC is actually controlling things. As far as if 550's are overkill...possibly. You will definetely need an Accel DFI or some other stand-alone computer to run the 550s. The SAFC will not be able to trim the 550's down enough at low throttle. Reason I say this is b/c I am already at -48% at idle on my SAFC and I'm running 440s.
