2142, how to clean out intercoolers?
Posted by grneclipse, Feb-26-01 01:11 PM
Alright guys, I'm about 2wks away from installing my turbo kit and all that is needed is to clean out my intercooler. It's a modded starion intercooler and the welder left metal flakes in there after he heliarced it? (aluminum welding). Now my good friend, MWC, told me to just flush it out with water and soap and I trust him and everything, but i have read elsewhere to just ran gasoline through it? Can somebody shed some info on this? Thanks in advance!

I think soap and water is probably fine, but I have also heard about the gasoling treatmenet. Also, I've heard you could use alcohol. (...not beer though! ;-) )

I think you should only use soap and water to remove the bulk of the s$^%#%^ and then use some gas or parts cleaner to finalize it. Let it sit out to dry for a day or so, and then cover the inlet and outlet until we install it for good. :)
