ive asked this before privately but didnt really get a straight answer.. is it a crappy muffler or something? or do people do it for aesthetic purposes? is the muffler straight thru?

The pacesetter is a very basic, cheap muffler. It reduces sound using similar methods to an OEM muffler. In other words...not great for flow. It sounds kind of like a dirt-bike (but a little beefier). The inside of the tip is painted yellow. It will eventually start to rust and look crappy. I kept mine for about 9 months before replacing it.

if all u want is a decent lookin tip, the psetter muff aint bad after the center is carbond black...

but what corbin said is definately tru... i swapped mines, and so has a buddy of mine w/the Psetter... both for straight thru mufflers

the pfunk muff is offset, not straight thru.. so if u slap on a straight thru muff onto the tubage, it will be cokd off to the dr. side a lil... doesnt look bad at all tho :thumbsup

Replacing the Pacesetter muffler must be a tradition as old as pacesetter.
A) the yellow paint inside the tip is ugly (but no problem. I removed it pretty easily before installing it on my car. No way in hell was a yellow interiored tip going on my ride).
B) there is nothing performance oriented about the muffler. Its a typical factory replacement type muffler with less sound deadening material. Again not totally a bad thing. If your factory system was a 1/4 inch bigger you probably wouldn't need to replace it.
C)Why pay brand X $500 for a catback when you can have one for half that which performs just as well and looks just as good (and with the muffler style of your choice). A few catbacks are all stainless (borla, thermal, magnecore to name most) but who gives a rats ass, exhaust rust isn't a concern on regularly driven cars.
D) Where else are you gonna get perfectly fitting prefabed mandrel bent 2.5" exhaust piping so easily and cheap. Pacesetter piping+muffler=custom exhaust the thinkin mans way (hence corbin, jason, dave_fl and myself chose to do it (-: )

How much of a performance gain would there be by swapping mufflers to a 2.5 inch flow through(side in/side out)? I know the exhaust slows down the cooler it gets and the downpipe/mid section are most important as far as sizing goes. I noticed the pacesetter muffler inlet goes into the muffler chamber and the exit has a resonated 2.5 inch tube that goes straight in. Not a flow through, but not restrictive IMHO.

I will probably swap the muffler, but love the stealth look of the pacesetter. I need every pony I can get.

I agree with the stealthness of the pacesetter muffler. But seein how everyone chop their's off and replace with a aftermarket, I think I'll do the same too.

Anyone know if a good dual outlet tipped muffler. I was checkin gout magnaflow, but no pictures...:P

I personally thought the pacesetter muff was ugly as all hell and wanted to get rid of it as soon as possible. I love my exhaust now, my only prob with it is the new muff doesnt stick out as far as I would like. The sound is amazing though and I wouldnt trade it for another
