well recently i installed the crane hi-di2 or so with the timing retard, with map sensor for boost with the new style tach adapter... as of right now i have the ngk spark plugs 1 heat range colder gapped at .30 should i open it up? if so what to?... i mostly boost 6-9psi... also since i put this ignition on sometimes i get system too lean bank 1 it occurs at idle only would this related in anyway to the ignition i put in?

you don't need a heat range colder plug for 6-9 lbs of boost. I would reccomend that for 15+ psi or nitrous. you should be fine from .035 to .030. I would try .035 first, and if you get blow out, lower the gap accordingly

Wouldnt you want to raise the gap a bit with an upgraded ignition??

Mine is gapped to .035 right now, and it seems to be fine. I might try opening the gap a little to .038 this weekend.

If it 'seems' fine right now why would you mess with it? Perhaps you will say more power, but I would rather err on the side of safety. The recommended gap on stock ignition with a turbo is actually .025-.028 so a .035 is already large. Mine is gapped to .030 assuming nothing has changed.

so does that mean that one range colder with 8psi is bad?

blow out refering to? blow by? what would happen if the gap is too big or too small? just wondering... once i get my injectors in i plan to up the boost a bit10-12psi once i get it all in order...hehe

naw, when a plug has too large of a gap, in the upper rpm range, the spark plug doesnt perform well, like hesitates, misfires...

i dunno what blow out refers to, but its prolly same thing as ^ and doesnt refer to blow by...

if a gap is too small u may just not ignite all the fuel in the cylinder.

somewhere i read that the diff. heat ranges were for increased performance (modding an engine) and also for different compression.

You got a point there Murix! The reason I was going to change it is because of a slight hesitation that I'm experiencing with my car. It's a quick, jerky hesitation that seems to be an ignition issue. I remembered Len Ayala at HRC advised me to gap the plug to either a .028 or a .038, since I'm running 15 psi daily, and with an aftermarket ignition. I am not sure which one he said exactly.
