20138, The Bad Luck Continues.........
Posted by mitsudsr, Apr-20-02 01:37 PM
Well for the past 1-2 weeks you mave have seen me posting about things going wrong(welcome to turbo life). Now however I'm really in it, appearantly I have a blown seal on my turbo :(. It has been running super hot lately, and I have been leaking oil out of my BOV. Now today I started the car and it was squeeling real bad. I turned it off let it sit, and looked under the hood. Had my machanic friend listen and started it again, he said yup the turbo is fried. I got the turbo last May-June so it should still be under warrenty from Hahn right? God I hope so, may be I will even upgrade to the Super 20G. It is only Saturday night so I have to wait till Mondy to call Hahn. Also do you think it is possible that oil got into the intake manifold? And is my FMIC now ruined because of all the oil in it? Sorry for such a long post,
Patrick

I believe your FMIC is saveable. Just remove it and pour some gasoline thorugh it until it comes out clean.

Intake manifold....not sure about it.

Here's how you test the turbocharger. Take the vacuum line off the wastegate and block it somehow (screws work good). Then drive it, if turbo is fried it wont boost but if its working it will boost forever.

Sorry to hear about your string of bad luck bro. I had to have mine rebuilt too, because of cracked piston rings, which passed bad oil to the turbo. Anyway, since the turbo is under one year old, it should be covered. HRC will want the turbo tested by a technician, and speak with the tech. Otherwise, you could just send it in, but you'll have downtime, and possibly have to pay for shipping.

FYI, the reason I sent mine back was because the turbo was passing oil through the intercooler, i/c piping, and the air filter! HRC determined that it was caused from oil coking, using low grade oil, or that I didn't allow the turbo to cool down--so mine wasn't covered. All these weren't true because I used Royal Purple and had always allowed sufficient cool-down time.

Yeah that is the same here too, all sorts of oil going through the intercooler piping. I hope they dodn't try to pull that on me too, because I was using Mobil 1 Synthetic and have a turbo timer for proper cool down. I'll have to wait till tomarrow to find out.
