Posted by YelloEcipse97, Apr-18-02 09:02 AM
just wondering, before i buy another n/t to turbo. Does everyone here that has a turbo kit installed have a reliable car? I do alot of traveling and i dont want to sink the extra money ot always fix something on my turbo conversion if its just gonna be unreliable. Its bad enough i sunk 2k into the kit alone. So any suggestions? should i get another n/t or find a 4g car??? I only have 7grand to play with here and i dont want a 1st gen body. What do you guys think here??? :) thanx

Well like anything you modify, there are the consequences. I drive everyday to college classes and usually 100 miles each way to and from to visit my fiance that has not joined me yet. The things that have gone wrong were mostly my fault and things I knew better not to do.(broke 2 o2 sensors b/c downpipe was resting under A/C comp--easily fixed if I had welded it somewhere different as soon as I noticed it)

91,000 total miles and 19,000 turboed miles and not one problem. And I am hard on it too.

35k turboed engine is poopin out one me though. 5 psi, haha I have no idea if I run it too hard, I guess so... :P

Don't worry it's a reliable daily driver, make sure you got say an AF gauge, Intercooler, and Oil Cooler. Then it'll be daily driving overly safe hehe :) EGT gauge I guess. My car runs rich and low EGTs . It begs me to up the boost with the worn out engine :(

turbo since september now.. no major problems and car still runs good.
I would say it is not a bad idea to have something cheap on the side "just in case".

i am also considering putting on a turbo but i want my engine to run for a while i am thinking about getting a hahn stage 1. with the 5 psi i dont think this will be too much. i basically want a car with more "balls" i dont know if i should turbo it or just go by the stages that this website suggests

Turbo tuning requires learning the basic knowledge of forced induction and how it related to fuel injection systems. If you aren't prepared to LEARN how to tune a turbosystem, you aren't READY for more power.

Assess, complete, destroy, rebuild, repeat.

"Assess, complete, destroy, rebuild, repeat."

that couldnt be so true.

I've had my car boosted for about 5k miles. The first 3 months were full of minor problems but after all those were fixed, i havent had any problems yet. Except the minor things shaking loose off my car!
