19893, BOV chatter??? Posted by JustOne, Apr-16-02 02:57 PM
I have the turboXs type-h bov. It opens fine above 5psi or so but anything under that I get a flutter or chatter from it. Does this mean the spring is to tight? Or is it to loose?

Your getting flutter because u aren't pushing enough boost thru your system to make it Blow off. It just slowly seeps out. I'm assuming its too tight. Anyone?

I've got the Type H-RFL on my HRC stage I... It blows off fine at any boost lvl, it will blow off revving to 4k rpms in neutral and is audible while driving even at 1 psi or so...
As for how to fix it, I'm not sure =(

do you have the vacuum line from it directly pluggled into the intake manifold? this really helps. my bov now blows out air at any psi instead of stuttering at really low psi.

my RFL did the same thing, until i ran a seperate vacuum line to it, now its fine

Ive got the same problem with my Greddy Type RS BOV. Hahn stage 2 turbo kit... flutters, imma have to try to run a seperate line from the manifold to my bov today... If that dont work wat is ur other options?

I tried the Type-RS on my car and I couldn't get it to blow off without sounding like a damn turkey. Tried loosening it a bunch, didn't help. I even took the smaller spring out inside of it like I did with my Type-S and it still didn't help. IMO, the Type-RS is meant for higher boost applications. My cousin has the RS on his EVO now and it works great for him, of course he is boosting around 20 psi.

Greddy rep told me it would be perfect for my application... If I keep having the same problem Ill jus ditch this crap and find one that works lol

Greddy products are far from "crap" IMO.
I have used them for years with no problems.
Run a seperate vacuum line to it and I bet it changes.
Also, you low boost guys should remove the harder spring from it as well.

If you can sell the rs and find a type-S it would be perfect for low boost. At 5 psi mine produce a perfect sound :)

I had no problems what so ever with my type s. Sounded pretty sweet. I strayed away from greddy cause of the leaking problem I've heard of when they open too soon. Now I have a HKS SSQV and I feel like it stutters all the time. I can't decide if i like the sound of it. Even at higher boost when I know it's really opening. Not quite the sound I'm looking for I think.

I have the brand new designed HKS super SQV, and it blows off just fine I used to have the old style and it would shutter. from my understangs thats called turbo surge. and isnt good. try using a lighter spring rate..or get the new style...looks fucking sweet.

Harder spring as in the smaller spring of the two (inside the other bigger one)?
