19741, am i running too much boost?
Posted by rfpunch, Apr-14-02 02:34 PM
i have a hahn stage 2 with the 9lbs actuator..i have the MBC turned up just a tad to get the full 9lbs..people are telling me that its too much for the car. i am conservative with the car and i dont boost all the time, but am i still running too much? i know there are exceptions but i know a guy from asog that ran 9.5 psi for well over a year before he did his rebuild. TIA

As long as your air/fuel ratio and egt temp looks good, then 9psi should be just fine.

General Rule: On stock internals, the more boost you run, the quicker you need a rebuild.

Just cause someone else is running 9.5psi dont mean anything. His engine is way different. So is mine, so is everyones in here. For all we know you got the best stock 420A engine made and could be able to hold 12psi all day but to be safe Id run less boost. My engine couldn't handle much. I waited before i was tuned, hd 370 injectors and an AFC before I went above 6.5psi but then it spiked to 10.5psi which might have caused my problems. I guess to be safe chill at 8psi but Im not sure about 9.5psi although I just met someone w/ stock internals and stock injectors running 11psi all day so its all up to how good of a mood your engine is in. Since your turbo is smaller then mine you should be able to handle more boost then I can. Good luck

Ive run 10psi since November 2001. NO PROBLEMS cept from the Cartech FPR but i'm waiting for the new generation one to fix that. Did compression test about 2 weeks ago and I had the SAME EXACT compression I had before I installed the turbo kit (maybe a tad better actually). Push it up to 9.5psi if you want but do a compression test in the near future after that to see if its harming the engine at an alarming rate. If 1st test is ok, do another one a month later. Then continue to do them once a month just to be sure.
