So i bought this datalogger from www.obd-2.com website a LONG time ago, but never used until yesterday. Man was I dissapointed. I couldnt even get fast o2 readings, even less datalog for knock - unless i dont know where to look, you cant even read knock!!!

Am i missing something? can someone help out?

Kiku, OBD2 does not support a very fast data capture rate, typically 6-8 signals a second. And, from what I remember, there is no way to read knock sum values with OBD2 (unlike the logger for 1st gen DSMs, which can read knock sum values)

The software for the pocketloggers (www.pocketlogger.com) has a feature (unlike the obd2 software) that lets you increase the data capture rate to be higher than OBD2 normally captures data. Instead of 6-8 signals a second, I'm able to get 18 signals a second with mine, but it varies from computer to computer. Normally you should be able to get at least 10-12 signals a second. It's not fast like the 1st gen DSMs (something like 50 signals a second) but it's better than 6.

okay for the pocketlogger, which cable do we buy, the dsm one or the obd-II one, i have a 95 NT eclipse. which i believe is obd-1 but i do have 2 plugs under the dash.

The cable you need from WWW.POCKETLOGGER.COM is the Chrysler one, NOT the DSM one.

is it correct that for 95's the manual is ODB2 and the automatic is ODB1

They are both OBD1, but have both 1&2 connectors.

Vinnie: Log for timing advance, not knock. The best setting's i've found to keep fast, semi-reliable data rates for ISO are 90, 12, 12 .. it may be different for you.

The slow data rates and disconnects are frustrating i admit, but it works, so it's better than nothing.

i have a 95 which was made in may of 95 and it is a manual and it has both plugs in it obd1 and 2

If you look under the "Data: tab (i believe), ther eis a paramter labeled spark adv - spark advance. Send this, and it will read out your timing advance. Anything less that 14* advance, and it is being pulled back.. tune for as high as you can get. 20ish is good.

so umm 95s can also be datalogged also? How just get the same cable and different software the OBDII guys use? I wanna hook my laptop up to my car too :)

1995's can datalog with the exact same software/hardware as the 1996+ guys. I'm using the www.obd-2.com software and a cheap P75 laptop. I have found it invaluable for tuning. When tuning a new fuel system, I keep the car in closed loop and watch my fuel trims. Adjust the fuel system to minimize trim.

Hell my obd2.com datalogger wont even log my o2 values! And I know what you mean by the aquisition being so slow. I would start my log at the top of 2nd gear and by the time it logged the first value and went through the rest of the set and back around to the first value again to start a second set, I was already in the middle of 4th gear!!... what a piece of junk. I've already taken Todd's advice on this and ordered the pocketlogger program. I'm excited to see how it'll perform, if not just for the fact I can log 02 values on it

my software from obd-2.com locks up every other second, always disconnects and reconnects, takes half an hour of trying to get a few values to read...

Brad- try this software, and use a shorter or shielded cat-5 cable.
