will a boost controller help you reach full boost sooner than if you have the wastegate cutting off at the same boost level? for instance if i have a 9lb spring in the wastegate and i set a mbc for 9 lbs will it make it come on quicker than just going with the wastegate

ok so excuse me for being dumb here but how does the mbc make it spool faster than just the wastegate?

Because the wastegate will come partially open far before the maximum boost is reached. Say, a 10psi spring will actually start to move at around 5psi, but isn't open fully until 10psi. That whole range, you are losing exhaust that could be used to spin the turbine faster.

A good MBC doesn't let the boost signal through to the wastegate until the desired boost level is achieved, so this effect is minimized.

Hmm well didn't notice much of a difference when I got mine. But I did notice a difference when I upped the boost. Hmm maybe I just got used to the power :P MBC are cheap so I say go for it, make sure your intercooled if you plan to up the boost though. Hehe I hope I have one of the good MBCs that DarkOne is talking about....

Most of the MBC's that will hold boost at what you set it at will help spool times. Its not a god given gift to turbo's, it wont increase your spool by 1000rpms but maybe 1-3rpms which is a lot.
