Recently (only after car warms up), something along the lines of a fuel pump not working has been happening. When I first start the car up it runs great, I can boost and actually drive. After the car warms up, it has started to lack fuel pressure under boosted operations. In other words, my relay is messing up, my stock pump is messing up or my accel pump is messing up. But why only after the car warms up? What could be causing that? If I take the fuse out of the accel pump, the car stays running, however it drops in fuel pressure dramatically. Is this normal? I have no idea whats causing this but its annoying as hell to not beable to boost AT ALL because I dont have enough fuel for it. Im gonna call HRC tech as soon as they open but want to hear some of your opinions on the matter as well.

I'd say you're on the right track - call HRC. By the symptoms, it is hard for me to say exactly what it could be - it's much easier when i can actually see it, sit in it, drive it.

You may have your regulator adjusted wrong. The older cast Bell regulators have a habit of changing settings depending on the temperature of the spring inside - this may be what is happening to you. Wait for it to warm up and run like crap, then readjust it and see what it does.

Then call HRC.

I'll go try it. HRC Tech has new hours again, now 1-5pm central. Blah, cant they just work normal hours?

Ok, I tried it. I ran the car til it starting running real lean again. I pulled over and checked the fuel pressure and it was at 40psi. I raised it up and drove it, nothing changed. I then got out and removed the fuse from the accel pump and put it back in. I ran the car and it ran just fine. About 2 minutes later it starting running lean under boosted operation once again. I got out, removed fuse and put it back in. Nothing changed. I am completely stumped. I know for sure its not the stock pump. It runs fine, it has to be the accel pump, the relay (which I dont think it is) or what you said Dino, the FPR. HRC Tech opens in an hour, they will get a call from me.

Any word?

Just got off the phone with HRC Tech. The guy said that it sounds like a vacuum leak somewhere. His explanation for it was, that once the vacuum hose gets hot, its expanding and creating a leak. The reasoning is that the FPR operates off vacuum under boosted operations. Im gonna just replace all the vacuum line since I have tons of it anyways and tape the gauge to my windshield again to see the exact pressure I am getting. Glad to know its something easily fixed (if replacing all the vacuum hose works). I will keep everyone posted, im gonna go do that now.

Ok, I replaced all vacuum hoses. So far so good but its rush hour so I wasnt able to let loose like I would want to. Also, my FPR is working like a champ since my modifications. I replaced the thin piece of junk inside the FPR (thinner than paper) with some sheet metal. Holds FPR at 55psi idle, every start up and after a run. NEVER changes.

Took the car out today to really get on it. Well, I didnt even make it to the end of my street before the same problem started happening again. This time though, the car wasnt even warmed up. I need to go out and get some fuel line to put the fuel pressure gauge back on my windshield. If im getting less fuel then I should, I will know where to start looking. If im getting WAY over, which actually might be the case because I lost a lot of fuel in my 10mile test (2 mins of it, I was at WOT, the rest normal driving). So, whats that mean guys? Too much fuel would be spark plugs, plug wires, or coil? Anything else? Im gonna go take my plugs out as soon as car cools down a bit and I might as well do a compression test while its all apart so Ill let ya know.

Too much fuel is too much fuel. Doesn't have anything to do with your ignition, other than fouling your plugs.

Put the FP gauge back on your windshield and get back on it. If you start seeing 100+PSI fuel pressures, you're running way too rich.

Well, according to HRC Tech, if im getting the correct fuel pressure it would be plugs/wires/coil. Anyways, I took the plugs out and they looked damn good. I did a compression test and it was 165-165-170-170. Thats what it was before turboing also. I tested the plug wires and they were all good. Then I tested the coil, ~5 on 1/4 ~4.2 on 2/3. Its suppose to be upwards of ~11.5-~13.5. Also, I run 9psi so I need 100+psi fuel pressure. I think im getting that but the coil is preventing me from going. I had this problem before, I was getting the correct fuel pressure but the plugs were gapped way too much so I wouldnt move when hitting boost. Im waiting for my dad to get back with the fuel hose so I can check my fuel pressure. Where to get a coil? I think exetreme motorsports makes a high performance one. Not sure though.

MSD has an upgraded coil, but good luck getting it. it's been on backorder for ever.
