18766, Why not both?(sorta long)

I've seen this somewhere i think. Where a car would have a supercharger for low end, and a turbo charger for high end. This would be very kewl, for one, no lag. this would probably require some sort of controller, to disengage and engage the super or turbo chargers at certain rpm's and would be quite difficult, but possible. Also, on this board, someone said they were street racing and he had his superchager(not a dsm) and "turned" it on like with a switch. he never replied to that post again, but we finnally concluded that it would be possible to get a sudden rush of power simmilar to n20 by just turning your supercharger on. or turbo for that matter. this would be done by having a togle switch connected to a customized bypass making the charger blow for nothing. Btw, i got a video off the the car video archives showing two dsm's run quite fast times at the track. one 1G runns a 10 and the other a 13. not 2gnt at all but still dsm. if you want it AIM me or MSN at klipse racer for aim and klipseracer@hotmail.com for msn. its about 4 megs. very kewl.

here is some great info, although not dsm, but is a good example. They call it twincharging for those who didn't know. I think that the idea of the supercharger blowing through turbo would be best, but also having them seperate and blowing into the intake at different spots would work also. would have to have one way valves after the turbo and supercharger. controller of some sort still needed.

Im not sure about all that....seems sketchy, a supercahrger alone is sketchy. If you turned off the supercharger...youd have no powersteering or airconditioning would ya?

Some superchargers work via electromagnetic clutches that are triggered by the ECU. This was used by Toyota way back in the early 80s. The magnet would turn on when the ECU triggers it, which pulls the pulley (disc) toward the supercharger and engages it. Then the computer would stop sending the signal when needed, which would stop the magnet letting the pulley disengage again.

The problem with twin charging is that the supercharger would be nothing but a huge restriction to a turbo once it spooled up.

you wouldn't have the problem of the turbo starving for air if you didn't put them inline. make them a "v" style. In other words, connect them to the intake from two different spots like this:

Intake

/ \

T S

V V
\ /

(to engine)

T = turbocharger
S = Supercharger
V's=One way valves

This should works... what do you think? please ignore the likelyness, just the mathematicaly acurate part. this would be one huge mess but very kewl. yeah, like he said, you could just have the "clutch" turned off on the supercharger. The turbo can put out enough psi to more than make up for the powerloss of spinning the supercharger because it wouldn't be doing any compressing.

nobody makes a supercharger that will bolt up to our cars. that is the first step. without a supercharger kit, the whole twin charged thing kinda doesn't work.

And not only what Armond said but also, how the hell are you gonna fit all the piping under the hood of our already cramped engine bay?

All that is pointless....if you want a bunch of power then just build internals, and use NOS for low end if you have a huge turbo....why spend another $2000 for the supercharger plus all the other equipment you need to make it work, and would it be smart to have all that weight on the engine?

"Twin charging" is...(in my opinion) pointless. All that money could be used for something much more usefull.

it is way unrealistic. but the concept is good.. am i right? Never said it was a good idea, didn't even say on our cars. but i wanted an answer based on the mechanics.
