well my engine is out and getting rebuilt. I am getting the bore, and all that good stuff but they also said they were going to balance everything.
I was talking to Armond and he said to go ahead and get my clutchmasters stage 4 now so they can balance it too.

I checked the price and it was a little much right now,
SOoo I was wondering how bad off would I be to get the thing balanced now with the stock clutch and get the CM stage 4 later.

Like will it mess up a lot of stuff if I get balanced now and put on the clutch later??

I never even balanced mine.

We spun the crank up on a lathe, centered it, no variation, no play at 2000RPM, so we left it alone. Runs fine.

The clutch itself shouldn't make any difference at all.. I'm interested to hear from Armond on this, however.

I though tthe clutch didn't need balancing at first either, but when my buddy Joe "BLKOUT" got his engine built, they balanced his clutch with his crankshaft, and the clutch/flywheel was WAY out of balance. So it appears that Cm doesnt' put high priority in balancing their flywheels on the modular clutch. So I had him get my clutch balanced while he was getting his engine built :-P

You should ALWAYS have the rotating assembly balanced. Think about how fast the internals are spinning and how just a LITTLE difference in the weight of on part can make the bearings wear crooked. Yes I know people have NOT balanced and run fine but I want my engine to last a long time and run as smoothly as possible so it will last. When I build my high compression screamer in a few weeks it WILL be balanced and it will run VERY smoothly. This will also allow the engine to run at higher rpm than stock. The ECU won't let you pass the stock cutoff but with a stand alone system the engine will be able to rev higher withno problems. In MY OPINION, BALANCE BALANCE BALANCE. If you are doing everything else, why not go ahead and balance it.

I'm cheap, and i was hard up on time and cash.

And by the time it croaks from a worn out bearing (if it EVER croaks) it'll be more than time to rebuild it anyway.

I have no doubt i will still be able to hit 8000RPM on it, valvetrain permitting.

Yeah I don't doubt the ability of the engine to rev high, it's just how LONG can it do that without a good balance job.

That's the funny thing - my engine doesn't run rough at all except for at idle, and i think that is because i have an vaccuum leak around my intake manifold/injector boss area.

Once it leaves idle, it's smooth all the way to fuel cut.
