18578, pyrometer problem... Posted by speedracer21, Mar-27-02 05:36 PM
I installed my autometer pyrometer yesterday and when i started up my car and took it for its first drive, and the dumb pyrometer didn't move!! It lighted up and the yellow and red wires are connected on the correct termanls, but it dont move.... I think it's busted, and i'll probably have to call summit and get a new one, but i wondered if anyone had the same problem??

If my memory serves me well, there should be a total of 6 wires for you to connect. the yellow and red from the probe, white and black for the light bulb, and an additional constant 12v and ground (red and black).
Make sure your 12V isn't one of those interior light wires that can be dimmed. routed it directly from your battery, and find a good body ground. I used the bolts near the steering column.
look it over and double check everything. good luck. I had the same problem and started probing the wires to find out where it wasn't having voltage. turned out my ground wire was no good. I tapped into the rheostat.

hey bro, there are like 8 wires to hook up about... its really easy the only hard part maybe getting the manifold tap for the sensor... to hook up the gauge and wires except tapin the manifold should take only less then 30mins...

well it was the power wire.. The "T" tap didnt bite thru the insulation, but now it works:-)
Yea hades, its super easy to install the egt gauge, all you really inne is a tap set (like $25) and a drill. You drill a hole a tiny bit smaller than the threaded fitting , then get the tap/ threader, whatever its called. and just tap it to make the threads, making sure they match the threads on the fitting, then just screw it in. It will be a tapered fitting, so it will seal as you tighten it

sounds good. just make sure you have a constant 12V source and a good grounding point.

you would be more paranoid than you ever were when you place the car under load. Sometimes too much informationruins the driving experience.
Post some of your EGT readings when you get a chance to.

cause of the dumb dfi...
But my egt's were about 900 at idle, well my crappy idle. And about 1100 when doing 60 in 4th But then again i'm running hella rich, and taking it easy on her
