18337, AFC Readings (Lean/Rich) Posted by Dualgen2, Mar-23-02 06:23 AM
I asked this question before but I never got a response. This is for the people running 370 injectors. When you or whoever tuned your cars how lean/rich were you guys running at idle? After my car was supposedly tuned I was running 22% lean at idle and after watching my video tape when I zoomed in on the AFC my readings got up to 38% lean before it started to drop. That seems way to lean and I dont know anyone w/ AFC's around here running that lean. What sound my readings be w/ 370's? I know after talking to some of you guys (Vinne and Dino) we kinda concluded that running to lean didn't crack my pistons but Im not sure how spiking to 10 1/2 psi only 2 times cause that much damage. Maybe it did but its to late now. As we speak my new motor is being put in along w/ the turbo and Im curious what my AFC readings will be after my friend tunes it. Thanks a lot and sorry for long post. -Dave P.S. Ill be chillin at 6psi for awhile cause Im to worried this will happen again.

I'm running 370cc's, an S-AFC, and a '96-'97 Toyota Supra in-tank, and my @ idle AFC correction is -35. Again, maybe it's this high because of the very high-flow Supra pump. With my idle fuel pressure set at 50 psi, this is where I set AFC, and I know it's still very rich. Also, under full boost at 9-10 psi, my air/fuel is still showing .93 volts--definitely very rich, and this is with leaning -25, almost to redline. I was going to have my car dyno tuned, but since I'm getting ready to install my Accel DFI soon, I won't. If you have available funds, I'd really suggest that you take your car to a dyno, or hook up a datalogger, to set the fuel curves correctly. Street tuning is fine, but not when your engine is on the line. Also, it's easier to see exactly--how rich or lean--you're running (at idle, low throttle and high throttle) on a dyno.

I did dyno my car. Thats where I f***ed up my car and got horrible results. They "tuned" my car first, although they didn't pull plugs to see if Im running lean or rich. At 8 1/2 psi I dynoed at 186HP and 10 1/2 psi (where it spiked) I got 197HP at wheels which is horrible. Did compression test shortly after seeing tons of blowby and results were 70-200-210-90 about so I ran those dyno #'s on 2 bad cylinders. I think Im gonna stay away from dynos for awhile. -Dave

Anyone running a Holley or Walbro fuel pump w/ 370 injectors and S-AFC? What are your readings. -Dave
