After speaking with him, it sounds like 10 psi+, Martin. Apparently, he and Thunder unhooked the wastegate to ascertain whether it was the wastegate that was limiting the boost to 5 psi. It was.

Apparently, Ray heard Mario (Thunder) test driving it with the wastegate disconnected and all of the sudden, there was a lound BANG. That's when there as oil all over the vale cover...etc. I think there is some issues with his fuel system pressure as well that probably contributed to leanness at whatever boost it got to when they took teh wasrtegate off. As he noted in his post, the fuel pressure would quickly drop down to 15 or whatever, so you can just imagine what had happened when the boost went to whatever undetermined level. Even Ray wasn't in the car when the boost soared to whatever level....(I'm guessing pretty high!)

Anyhow, this equation always makes for a bad situation:

Fuel leanness + Extremely high boost = Kaboom :-(

If it were just one without the other, this migth not have happened, but both of these variable together is bad news...

JASON:Let me answer your post statemen by statement:

"Apparently, Ray heard Mario (Thunder) test driving it with the wastegate disconnected and all of the sudden, there was a lound BANG" THe only thing the he heard was my leting off right next to him and then shifting there was NO BANG

"That's when there as oil all over the vale cover"
Oil spits out of there normally obviously the higher your oil pressure the more is going to spit.

"...etc. I think there is some issues with his fuel system pressure as well that probably contributed to leanness at whatever boost it got to when they took teh wasrtegate off"
Agree with you Unfortunally i could do nothing to chech on this

" As he noted in his post, the fuel pressure would quickly drop down to 15 or whatever,"
This didn't happend while I'll was there this happend the day after when ray took his car to get his bumper installed when i boosted the car FP was at 33 if i remember correctly cause he told me he was compensating for the big injectors, and I told him I rather run rich than leand and i though it was kind of lean.

" so you can just imagine what had happened when the boost went to whatever undetermined level."
It was a determinated level 11psi MAX I would not take a car that is not mine over this I even told him, that even though i ran my car at 14psi in the stree i didn't recommend ANYONE to do this.

" Even Ray wasn't in the car when the boost soared to whatever level....(I'm guessing pretty high!)"
I asked ray to go with me in the car but he couldn't at the moment cause he was taking care of his kids, And your guess is unfortunally wrong.

But here is in detail what happend:

Here is the story last thursday, Ray, told me on the NET that he couldn't boost his car pass 5psi, then he mention the shop that installed (who i KNow for bad reputation) I went to his house in about 8min, after opening the hood I noticed A LOT of things that WERE not correct, for example MSD on the firewall inside engine bay, Fuel Pressure regulator in the wrong side, ECU harness tapped with a bunch of wires that looked like an spaghetti platter, vacum lines run thryu the valve cover, with NO order whats how ever. That night I took the car for a spin and it boosted 5psi then 4.5 in high gears, I went back to his house and asked him if he wanted me to tell him if the BOV was leaking OR the wastegate wasn't the one for his kit. So i disconnected the vacum of the wastegate and in third gear i did PARTIAL THROTLE slowly to make the boost creep slowly, I boosted arround 9-10psi and went back to tell him BOV was fine actuator was a stage 1 actuator.

I offered to fix his engine bay (vacums wires) the next day jsut to help him out, next day I went to his house, and RE-DID ALL the vacums, and made the engine bay look more appropriate and overall the car was going to run better with more accurate readings. After this I puted a Y in the vacum of the actuator to boost it to where it was supposed to be, i got the car to boost solid 7.5psi, then i switched the Y and spiked to 10, and i let off and again it spiked to 11 so I leted off, when i got back YES THERE WAS OIL IN THE ENGINE BAY, BUT is absolutly normal for our cars to spit oil from the breather hole in the valve cover that Ray had open to the atmosphere, My car did it, Chris Viera's car did it, and I know some other people here have asked questions about this, THIS DOESN"t MEAN the motor is blown. But we let the car idle in front of his house and the car idleed PERFECT no problems, EGTs were fine all the time and I always boosted it on partial throtle so the EGT NEVER got pass 11.5 12. We even looked at the oil leverl which was PERFECT after spiting a bunch of oil that means it was over filled. THe time that i boosted 11psi that Ray said he heard the car, it WASN'T a snap he just heard a loud PSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHH, result of me letting off RIGHT next to where he was and the BOV opened up really loud.

His fuel pressure was kind of low to compensate for the big injectors and I NEVER touched his AFC which i have NO CLUE on what settings he has on. I strongly believe that there was an injector failure the next day because of the herratic fuel pressure he described, AND the Herratic idle that I REPEAT was perfect the day before.

I've been trying to get in touch with him however and haven't been able to, But i just wanna point out the facts, so u can see ECXACTLY what happend. THe car DIDN'T saw boost that was above normal, and the car didn't saw boost for long periods of time, didn't smoke or had erratic Fuel Pressure or Idle while I was there. However I'm willing to help Ray with anything thats on my hands, but this is something between me and him.

Have a Nice day
Mario Deniz

Ok, first of all I wanted to reply after I seen Jasons reply. I thought it might to some people seem as though there was finger pointing to Mario and this unfurtunate situation. I would like to say that what happened is a fact of life when you upgrade and mod cars. It is unfotunant that my motor blew, however it is not my fault Marios fualt or any ones fault. It suck, and thats it! I have always said I would boost until I blew my motor so I could build the one I really wanted, so this in a strange way is what I asked for. Please I pretty much like everyone on this board, and do not want anything to do with past issues between some of you guy's. Thunder, I in no way blame you or ever even thought to, just ask Mickey. I appreciate your helping me and offering to help with my future mods/ rebuild. We know what happened that night and others can go by what we say, and even then they wernt there so it is hard for them. No one forced me to say " Thunder go ahead and disconect the wastegate" thats because I agreed to it. My install and fuel system in my mind no doubt is the reason this happened. But instead of wasting time figuring out who to blame, I need help figuring out how, what and where to rebuild my motor. Thanks guy's
Thanks Thunder!
SEE YA!!!!!!!!!!MWC
P.S Thunder, Bro you made my car sound like a peice of shit! :) Its not that bad!

I hope you didn't construe any of this as a blame on you Mario. I think it's just a combination of variables that caused this. We all know that a lot of this turbocharging stuff can be risky and that's what I was referring to.

Anyhow, I apologize if you thought this was anyway an assault on you Mario. When I said that Ray wasn't in the car, I just meant that I hadn't heard from you what the ACTUAL boost level was at (and obviously Ray wasn't in the car). Just wanted to clear that all.

I just want to keep the issue focused on Ray. I feel bad for him and what's happened to his car. My post was meant to both educate people on the importance fo the fuel system again, and to illustrate all of the pertinent facts. I completely respect your knowledge of turbocharging a great deal Mario, so if you took any of my last post on a bash against you (which it wasn't), please take this post as an apology to my sometimes frivolously written posts. (most of the time I just start typing fast hardly ever looking up :-) )

Jason, I apologize if I acted a little defensive, I understand the intention of your post as far as trying to educate people in the board. I was worried when I replied because at the time i didn't really know what was going on, so I just wanted to state the facts of what my encounter with the car was,.
Because I don't need to build any bad reputation here for free.

I apreciate that you apologized here, even though you didn't have to,....Anyways now we have some nice ideas for his car hopefully everything goes well.

It's all cool, Mario.

You know "Thunder RS-T" will forever be my hero !! :-) (Thunder RS-T will always live....heh)

Keep us updated on how things go. A lot of us have had pretty funny excuses for upgrading our internals, but in the end, who cares!??! It'd just be wonderful to have em! Anyways, I'll be hoping for the best!
