1824, tranny stuff Posted by Erik, Feb-18-01 08:59 AM
Can anybody tell me where I can get some good synchros without killing my wallet? My 5sp is losing 2nd gear and as a bad input shaft bearing(makes god awful noises when cold). I got a junk tranny cheap and need some synchs and other fun stuff. If anybody can help please post or mail me! Thanks

From what i understand from speaking to several transmission shops (i have a busted first gear syncro) syncronizers are only about $5. What'll kill ya is the labor to have them installed. All the quotes i've gotten were over $1500 for a rebuild on my tranny. The dealership quoted $1600 (told me to get a used one), and a local transmission specialty shop here quoted my $1500 for a full rebuild. It was them that i asked about the syncros, and they told me that the actual syncro is really an inexpensive part. If you ask around any local tranny shops or maybe your local Mitsu dealer, you can probably find them pretty cheap. How much have you been quoted?
-DarkOne I'm so bad, i should be in detention.

I haven't been quoted anything. I'll build the tranny myself. I've built some auto transaxles (pain in the a$$) and alot of chevy TH350's and 400's. I got the shop manual for the tranny. I was more interested in getting some GOOD stuff instead of OEM. I'm willing to spend a couple of bucks so I don't have to tear it apart again. BTW I got this junk tranny pretty cheap. If the tranny that comes out of my car isn't too bad to rebuild I'll sell it pretty cheap also-we'll see on that!
