18166, fuel pump or relay????? (hrc kit)
Posted by toykilla, Mar-21-02 06:42 AM
Ok, I out cruising on the really NICE day and after riding around for about 10mins, whenever i started to hit boost the car would lean out. I turned radio off and rolled up windows..I could still hear the accel fuel pump. I pulled over and checked fuel pressure, it was 35. It was 48-50 when I left my house. I take the car home making sure i dont boost and when i get there i take the fuse out of the accel pump. The car, died. Is my stock fuel pump going bad or is the relay thats suppose to turn the stock pump off and on bad??? ive take the fuse out before and its stayed running so i dont know what to check for. I looked at all wiring for relay and its all connected. Am i going to have to replace fuel pump, how much do those things cost??

Hmm....I have no clue about your car, but just yesterday my fuel pump started to die..that's why I'm just going to buy a new fuel pump and FPR. In the long run it'll be better...i'm kinda excited, maybe it'll pull harder. :)

Sounds like the base fuel pressure needs to be adjusted. It's no the relay, that just provides the "switch" to turn on the HRC pump and you know thats working. It could be your stock pump, but I would try adjusting the FPR first.

I adjusted it back to normal and it worked for about 30 seconds then went back to leaning out. This time the fuel pressure stayed around 45-50 where I reset it to. Its like the fuel pump is trying to work but not doing anything, could something clog it or one of the lines?? I really dont want to replace a damn fuel pump unless I have to.

Im looking at HRC's trouble shooting tips in their instuctions. (Fuel Pressure drop during boosted operation: Stock pump not working and fuel filter plugged. I think its the stock pump but Id rather start cheap and work my way up. =] Where and how hard is it to replace a fuel pump?

Fixed it, it was the relay. =] One of the wires came lose a bit from the relay so it was getting a connection but not a very good one. Thats why I could hear it, but when under pressure it wasnt doing much.
