how can you tell if it's a ball berring turbo? does it have a certin model # on it or does it say bb or ball berring on it? the reason i ask is someone in my area is telling me thats what they have but he dosent achieve full boost till 4ooo rpm so i'm trying to make him realigze he was lied to by the shop. because from what i understand the bb turbo should achieve full boost at 3.5 rpm

Depends on his A/R ratio, what engine he has, other mods he has etc. I have the bb and I reach full boost much earlier, but if you put my turbo on a v8, you'll reach full boost much earlier. However, if you put it on a little 1.6 miata, it will be later. See what I'm saying?

As far as I can tell, there is no way to tell that it is a bb turbo without taking it apart and looking. I saw no markings whatsoever on mine.

well he has our same car a 95 eclipse and all he has is a udp and a high flow cat with 2.5 inch piping all the way back to a straight through muffler. and he has the t3/t4 e trim with the bb turbo (but he payed way way too much for it) btw when do you achieve full boost and what mods do you have that make you get there sooner?

I don't have anything that would help me reach full boost noticably sooner. I'm only running 6psi, but I reach that around 3200 rpms. But, he could have other probs that could cause this. Vacuum leaks anywhere or low compression (bad rings/pistons etc). that's just 2 off the top of my head. There's others...

Or, he could have just been ripped off and you were right all along :). The only way to know (as far as I can tell) is to take it apart.

There was a discussion a little while ago about E-trim. The spool up time is a tad longer. I have E-trim but have no one else to compare it to so I can't be much help.

my best guess .. he's leaking boost somewhere.. tell him to check all the silicone piping connectors and hose clamps and tighten down.. and sometimes if someone runs too long or too small in diameter of a vacuum hose to the boost guage.. it will have a delayed reading. So he may be achieving full boost early on after all.

Heh I got the BB option seems like a waste of money to me. I don't notice any faster spool up. Randy's seems to spool up faster than mine. Generally I hit full boost at 4k and sometimes on really cold days I can start boosting at 2k.
