17967, stroker kit and rebuild but a little different approach to it *read* Posted by toykilla, Mar-18-02 09:19 AM
I am currenly looking for the Dodge Stratus 2.4L block that is suppose to be a direct fit to our head with engine mounts and everything the same. Im looking for a blown one that Im hoping I can get for around $200 and rebuild that. Does anyone know what year Stratus has the 2.4L that fits our 420A or is it all years?? How much horsepower does a stock Stratus add? Ive heard all about those stroker kits but this should be the same thing. Just a little cheaper...anyone have any thoughts on the matter?

the 2.4L 420A makes roughly 150HP.. but almost 40ft/lbs more torque than the 2L.
I *beleive* it came in all 95-99 2.4L Stratii.
It is not quiet a "direct fit" - the block is 1" taller. You may get the whole thing in there and not be able to shut your hood.

hood will be able to shut fine. you just cant use a strut tower bar anymore.
i've done alot of research into this. you'll ahve to swap oil pans and possibly take out the balance shafts, which isnt to difficult. i was seriously considering doing this, but howell doesnt make a rebuild kit for it. which is my biggest dissappointment about the whole thing. and will more then likely keep me from doing it. hopefully over the summer when i am ready to do an engine rebuild that they will have a kit availabe for the 2.4

i was reading a mopar mag a month ago or so, and i remember them doing a 2.4l swap in a neon. i'm sure it was the neon 2.4L 420A, not sure if that's the same as a stratus. anyway, i remember them saying they had to leave out the balance shafts.

95-99 stratus, cirrus, breeze. 2.4 is also in the PT and i think someone mentioned its in the base model Liberty
youll need to do something w/ the engine mounts. the eclipse hood should have plenty of clearance, worse case, just cut out the hood framing.
like dino said, stock hp is just 150, but it makes 170 ft-lbs of torque right out the box :)
