17553, HAhn Stg 2 UPIC question... Posted by eclipsekaiser, Mar-12-02 09:36 PM
well around 5pm last night I got bored, and started putting in my stage two kit by my self. As of right now (3am) after a many layers of skin lost, and many cuss words screamed at my dog (hey i need to take it out on somthing), the manifold, turbo, oil drain, SMIC, UPIC, and LIC piping is on.
Only problem that I ran into it the extremely virgin like tightness in clearance for the Upper IC piping between the TB and the battery support as well as the elbow that is below the fues box. I manage to only slip a little notch of the elbow onto the UPIC, and clamp that thing down.... tight.
Should I be worried that it will blow off under positive pressure? Why does hahn make that elbow portion soo short where there is no room for error....arrrrrggghhhh.
Anyways tomorrow I'll tackle the fuel system, as well as finish off the oil sending unit. Any hints for this rookie in turbo charging.
Also, I'm not using the cartech regulator, but instead I replaced it with the SFMU. Will I need a check valve when I purchased the Bleed port option???
thank you soo much for your attention, and assistance.

hey dude, good to hear its going good... well the elbow and pipe under the fuse box was not tighten well after install on my car and when james and i went for a test drive after that exact part blew off under high pressure... also at the tb yah its a dame tight area if you did not remove the battary remove it to make it easier if you want... on your fuel system take your time dont rush... as you know james is busy as hell doing his rebuild... let me know whats up with the sfmu i might just put my sfmu only instead of injec also not sure... oh yah u got teflon paste right? after your down with install look over it all and make sure its complete dont want to start it and BAME just messing hehe

Probably not. But if it does, you'll know right away for sure. Just clamp it down as well as you can. My section of piping right there was a big pain too. It hasn't blown off though.

I'm using the SFMU and have been considering the bleed option. With the already installed 3.62" disk that comes inside the SFMU, you'll have about a 6:1 boosted ratio. You really want something closer to 5.55:1. (you'll be able to see that your fuel pressure is sligthly hihg upon initial tuning)
That means a little fine tuning is in order. There will be a very slight bogginess during initial boosting (I know this, because I can compare with the Cartech when it worked correctly) with this fuel pressure, but all in all, your power will be good. You can go with the SFMU without a bleed option for awhile, and then get it later on if you like. You'll still have a lot of power you've not felt before.

yeah that is what I did. hopefully It wil not blow off as I'm tired from the install.
The fuel set up seem pretty simple. However the aluminum return line was a bit longer (by about 1 foot), so I just bend and looped it and proceeded to connect to the rubber return line.
Ovearll the install went pretty smoothly. Pretty tiring for a one man job. So far so good. I need to get a new down pipe made as the one I got from Sal is slightly off near the catalytic converter.
teflon paste is a bitch to find. I got about a 6 ounce container worth from a Plumbing place over in Norco. Anyone need somethign teflon pasted...I got plenty and don't want it to go to waste.
James i'll see if I can make it to your place friday. if not definitely saturday.
Thank you all for your help. Hopefully the car wil run right tomorrow.
