17401, MBC's and boost spike Posted by 96TSI AWD, Mar-11-02 04:15 AM
Will a mbc cut down or eliminate boost spike? If so, which would be better. A joe p mbc or turbo xs hp? The joe p is definately cheaper and i dont mind if it spikes 1-2 psi, i just dont like the 18psi im spiking to now.

What do you have now that controls the amount of boost you run?
My boost controller doesn't spike but 1 psi every now and again. But if the problem is attributable to something else, that should be investigated first.

Dude you better get your boost controller checked or something 18 psi is really bad boost spike. I get 1-2 psi from time to time. I haven't noticed any boost spikes since I installed my 20 dolla ebay boost controller though.

17404, I vote for the Turbo XS high performance Posted by DeanoD, Mar-11-02 10:20 AM
I am assuming you are using it on your 4g63 with a stock T-25 turbo. At 18 psi that turbo is not effecient. I have the Turbo XS high performance boost controller on my 420A(7-10psi). It has a ball and spring design(course adjustment) and a bleed screw for small adjustments. The most mine has spiked is .5 psi when I slowly get into the throttle. I also have my external wastegate connected to the compressor side of the turbo. You may have better luck connecting the wastegate to the intake manifold. This is suppose to better for boosting over 15 psi due to loss in pressure from all the connections in intercooler piping.
I only paid $80 for mine(wholesale)and the retail is pretty steep. You will not be disappointed. We have race cars from our shop and other local dsm turbo cars using them for more than 30 psi boost pressure and it still does not spike.

Yeah, im using it on the 4g63 with the t25. Before the 3 inch exhaust, it would spike to around 17 psi and go down to around 12. Now it spikes to around 18 sometimes and goes down to 12-13psi. Will a mbc help this? or is it possible that im really boost creeping, but the t25 cant keep up, so it just bleeds off to 12-13 psi anyway at higher rpms? (thats what the guys on dsmtalk said) I still think it feels like spike, just a little higher than before. so would a mbc help out?
