17377, Mileage as it relates to engine reliability. (question)
Posted by Skillionaire, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
I was just curious of something. My car (96) only has 42k miles on it. Now if i added a turbo kit, would my car be less prone to any sort of engine failure than a car with say 80k..or for that matter 60k. Or do the chances something going wrong have more to do with the actual structure of the engine, rather than wear and tear? Also, would the same thing be affected by a A/T over an M/T. My guess would be that an M/T would be harder on the engine in the long run...but I know nothing. thanks.

Just make sure you get a compression test done before you boost it, I think anything over 180 and you should be ok. 42,000 miles in a 96 are super super low. I'm a 99 and have like 53,000 already. Some people here have started over 60k with no problems. The way I see it, as soon as you get the kit put on, save every bit for the rebuild kit (piston, rods, rings). Should be around 1000 bucks. Check howellautomotive.com. Good luck mang!!!!!

you can do the compression test in your own drive way. Just buy a comp tester at pepboys.
