17245, Another Injector Question, Sorry
Posted by pocotheeskimo, Mar-08-02 03:47 PM
Ok,
I'm looking for some opinions on the RC 550s... Are these usable with our engines? Are they controllable by the S-AFC or are they too big? And what's all this talk about discs with FMU's and whatnot? I know the last 2 questions were probably searchable and I apologize for not doing so, but I figured I'd kill all my birds with a coupel stones. Also, what injectors (brands + sizes), are people running with Stage III and Stage IV, and what are some personal experiences with different brands? I've just recently purchased an S-AFC, when my tax-return check comes in about 1.5 months I'll have the $$ for the bottom end kit.. so now I'm looking for injectors and other various stuff I'll need..

I have RC 625's but I don't have them on yet. (still doing major work on the car) For stage 4 you are going to want 625cc or higher controlled by a DFI or something along those lines.

As far as RC goes they make a quality product.

The s-afc can control 440cc but I have read that over that and your going to be hella rich.

If your going to run stage 3 I would just go w/ the s-afc and some 440cc.

IS a DFI the same as an FMU?? All these abbreviations have my head spinning =) How big is the difference between stages 3 & 4 at 15 psi. on just 93 octane? Does Stage IV make more power only when boosting on race gas, or does it always, due to the injector size?

Basically,
I'm trying to figure out a good fuel system for a stage IV setup.. Would 625/650cc injectors and a Vortec super FMU, suffice (along with the in-line pump)? Or are there other parts missing besides these??

no

none. 15 psi of boost is 15psi of boost. Stage 3 runs 15psi and not much more. Stage 4 is 15+ I am going to run around 18psi on pump gas and 25psi at the track on race gas. (when and if I ever get done w/ this build-up)

The differences between stage 3 and 4 are the fuel systems.

The DFI is a piggyback computer that overrides your stock ECU and allows you to run bigger injectors. (put shortly)
as Dino said once in a post "the DFI is and S-AFC on steroids"

You still need a FMU w/ the DFI. I would go w/ the vortech unit.

HRC still doesn't have a stage 3 available but you can basically build your own (just upgrade you fuel system and turn up the boost):-)

So for stage IV, i'm going to need the FMU & DFI, & injectors? Anything else? So the S-AFC is useless past stage III then.. Hmm
What's the price for a DFI?

Accel DFI gen 6 1100.00

you will also need something for you ignition. i.e. crane or msd

and you wont need a S-AFC for stage 4

You're currently Stage III then right? What are your thoughts on it.. Do you have any track times? I'm just trying to see if I should go in order from III to IV or just skip III and go straight to IV.. I know III is definately reachable for me by July, but I'm not sure if I'll be craving more power by the end of summer and wished I had gone to IV.. What are some of the kills you've had in stage III? Maybe that'll be enough to keep me happy with stage III =) Also, is 15psi the max boost on 93 octane with stage III or is 17-18 attainable safely?

Stage 3 never happened. I was sitting and staring at my car and the millions of parts that are off of it and I just said, fuck it I am just going all the way. I dont know if I will ever be able to play around w/ a car like this in the future. (kids, mortgage, retirement, all that crap that comes with old age)

I am twenty-four now and I want to be able to say I built at least one monster in my lifetime. I am also getting tired of the 4g63 guys I hang around telling me my car will never get into the 12's. So I am just out to prove to myself and others that this platform can be fast.

I was going to just build a stage 3 setup but I just want more.:-)
