If you're thinking of trying to put a 4g6 in your car, go read up on it in "Things We've Seen Before" under "Engine Swaps: final answers and a reality check"

Put another 420A in it, change your oil regularly, and keep an eye on the level between changes. Our cars are very sensitive to low oil levels.

To awnser your question IMO the 420a is a better motor.

and y is a 420A a better motor then 4g63? Is cause it cant handle boost for sh*t unless u spend to much $ building it up. Yeah its easier to put another 420A in his car but its not a better motor.

Ah, the opinions of the uneducated...

Yes, a 420A is the better motor. I have seen 4g6 pistons fail in all the same spectacular manners as 420A pistons. Why? The materials used in thier construction are the exact same. Do you want to know why the 420A doesn't "handle" boost as well? timing, timing, timing. Our ECU is designed to run the car safely naturally aspirated. it can't even "read" boost with a single system or sensor in it. You have to MAKE it work with the boost, it's not going to do it for you.

There are people here that have been running stock motors at 8 and 9 PSI for over a year and 20,000+ miles. Just because YOU blew your motor doesn't mean that the 420A is any less of a capable powerplant. The fact that it is 15 years newer and CAD deigned is a benefit. The fact that it has 20% less moving parts is another. There are 420A powered cars in the 9's, boosted, all motor, and juiced. Ever heard of a 4g6 doing that? I didn't think so.

Don't base your assumptions soley on your personal experiences. it makes you look ignorant.

I really don't mean to flame or start a 420A vs 4g6 debate, but comments of that nature rub me the wrong way, and i've had a rough morning.

Go dino!

Have you ever looked at a dissasembled 4g63 and then looked a a 420a??

It is much stronger than a 4g63. Just look at the 4g63 crank maincaps and 420a's bedplate.

Now tell me which one is stronger.

DOODS,

Both engines are good in their own right. they were made and designed for different reasons. it is like comparing XTC to Weed... both make u feel good but in different ways. the 420a has had less RnD in it so it is still the underdog but that will change in the next year or 2 or more. But stock internal 4g63 has run high 10s to low 11s all day long and all day strong. From a boost stand point? the 4g63 is way better, from a NA standpoint? the 420a is way better. built motor vs built motor? who is faster right now?

Buying a honda is wrong, trying to mod it is a sin, saying it's fast is a crime.

Even for a boosted engine, the 4g63 is still not a very good motor. Mitsubishi just doesn't make the kind of quality engines that say Toyota does. I have a very close family friend who works for the Dana Cooperation in Muskegon MI. They have tested this engine, the 420A, and about every other engine you can think of. The conclusions of their research were that the 420A is a very solid built motor, and the 4g63 has a lot of "woopsies" inside. The engine works well for its purpose, but the fact of the matter is it is very prone to problems. Some get lucky, some don't. Why do you think I bought a 420A instead of a 4g63 when the insurance was only $100 more per year and the cars were near the same price?

wow a not so good motor running 26psi stock and high 10s to low 11s and wins rallies championships and HKS making a le mans car out of it!
well ill be...

and im not sure why u bot nor do i care how u spend ur $... but u sed it so... if u both cars were same amount of $ and u spent X amount on ur turbo kit on ur 420a... say 4k total in mods... do that to a gsx and how fast are u? lot faster den ur 420a turbo?

As much as i would like to jump in here and debate the merits of the various design aspects of the motors all other things being equal, i've already stated once that i do not want this turning into a 420A vs 4G63 thread. it it looks like it's going to go that way, i will lock it. Period.

I didn't mean to "diss" on your or anyone else's 4g63. My brother has a 98 GSX that I work on frequently and I have tons of friends with 1G's. I was just simply stating what was stated to me by someone who has worked over 25 years testing engines thought about it. He could be off, he might not be, who cares as long as yer happy with what you have. No hard feelings I hope.
