16755, Manifold/Turbo/Gasket/Seal/Screw Question =)
Posted by pocotheeskimo, Mar-03-02 01:39 PM
Hello,
On my car, one of the screws is broken on the section pointed to in the arrow of this picture;
Basically, I just wanted to know if this will effect my car's performance in any way, and also, is there supposed to be a seal or something there, because I can feel air coming out of it, and I don't think it's supposed to.. but maybe it is?

HAHA thats freaking odd.. I just snapped that one tonite too! :) AND I have air coming out there- (between turbo exhaust housing and downpipe... there are 3 screws holding it on)

I noticed my gasket, which apparently used to be a MLS type exhaust gasket, was completely cooked except the metal layer. Nothing was left but ash and that one metal layer.

You probably wanna get a new gasket & screw, and fix it. Exhaust gasses escaping under your hood are generally bad, and the radiator hose doesn't like it either. Mine sounded like a Model-T Ford, and the idle got all lumpy. I'm going to drill out the screw (its actually a stud) and try and find a replacement.

Anyone know if that gasket is HRC-specific, or generic 16G parts?

My screw in the top front is missing it's "bolt" head part.. you know the hex end of it.. Do you know which part it would be?;

H TZ-9100 Gasket, Super Turbo Turbine Inlet 10.50
H TZ-9110 Gasket, O2 Housing to Jr. Downpipe 5.49
H TZ-9120 Gasket, Mitsu drainblock 0.99
H TZ-9125 Gasket, 2" turbine outlet, Super 16G and 20G 5.00
H TZ-9130 Gasket, exhaust manifold T/E all 16.98 <----?????
H TZ-9150 Downpipe Gasket 1.88

I'm going to call Hahn tomorrow if I can't find an answer on here, so if that happens I'll let you know..

Gary

Should I just replace the screw you think? Or is it some "special screw"? =)

The downpipe gasket can be found at autozone or pepboys or any autoparts store really, i use header collector pro series ones from autozone, they work fine, i double up on them for a tighter seal.

Has anyone gotten part numbers for the gasket OR bolt? I'm going to run by Autozone and look for the "Header Collector Pro Series" gaskets... not hoping for much because they didn't know what a "compression tester" was yesterday. *sigh*

Here's my interpretation of these:

>H TZ-9100 Gasket, Super Turbo Turbine Inlet 10.50
Between the exh. manifold and the turbo

>H TZ-9110 Gasket, O2 Housing to Jr. Downpipe 5.49
For the GS-T upgrade "super turbo" with Eliminator Jr. DP

>H TZ-9125 Gasket, 2" turbine outlet, Super 16G and 20G 5.00
Between Turbo and Downpipe ??
I think this is what I blew, see pic below.

>H TZ-9130 Gasket, exhaust manifold T/E all 16.98
Between block and exhaust manifold.
ttiracing.com sells a copper one for ~$20 more.

>H TZ-9150 Downpipe Gasket 1.88
Not sure? Could be what I thougt was TZ-9125.

Call HRC to be sure. I bet you could get the screw and gasket at common parts places. These prices are pretty good tho.

well the reason you guys are all breaking bolts is because of mass production. It seems as though when the ex manifold flange was made the holes are a little off. Personally I would recomend getting the holes bored out the next size up. If you bore out all the holes the ex manifolod it should shimmy around enough to line up all the bolts . I know this because the guys in houston each have a bolt broke. shogunrs had 2 broke and i removed the studs and left one empty. Maybe this is something someone should take up with the top dogs? Although some may line up I feel that out of the 3 cars I know turbo'd 3 of them have broke bolts? this isnt very good odds. later mike

That's the one I lost as well.. right where those bolts are.. i like the duct tape though, how many HP does that add? ;)

That's aluminum blanket with asbestos liner, and asbestos fiber tape for heat shielding. No extra power, just less heat 2" from the hood. Gotta have good hood temps for all those chicks in bikinis to roll around on her.

I tried to change/put in the gasket.. couldn't.. I think i have to take out the engine in order to get at that bottom front bolt.. even tried removing the left fan.. too much work for now =)
