16744, Star stage 2 or HRC stage 2... Posted by GreenMonster, Mar-03-02 10:10 AM
Is there a diffence in the two turbos? do they run pretty much the same? Are they reliable and long lasting? I am just trying to better my decision and I would like some insight.

>Is there a diffence in the two turbos?
Answer is yes... The HRC Stage 2 comes with a Super 16G and the Star Stage 2 comes with a T3/T4 hybrid (I believe). The Star turbo is bigger, but the HRC turbo spools quicker.
do they run pretty >much the same?
Umm...they're both turbos...yes they run the same except that the bigger turbo is going to put out more power than the smaller turbo, but the smaller turbo is going spool faster....
>Are they reliable and long lasting?
I'm running a HRC Stage 2 and so far no problems. I am running at 5 psi though. If taken care of, they should last a pretty friggen long time.
Not to be rude or anything, but I'm pretty sure that this topic is covered in the "Things we've seen before" catagory, so you might want to check there to see if your question has already been answered before posting a question like this, being as this is a pretty common question (if you DID research it and couldn't find the answer, then I'm sorry for this bitch session). :) Hope that helps ya out, bro! Good luck going turbo. Trust me it's a blast!

Yes use the search forum. It is more helpful than any single person on this board.
Here is a recent thread about the same subject: http://www.2gnt.com/dcforum/DCForumID16/2669.html

The search tool sucks, or i need proper instructions on how to search with it, cause i always get crappy results from mostly offtopic subjects...

True Brad, I just put in "HRC STAR" and I got 3-4 topics that pertained to this. A more advanced search most likely would have given me shit. I wonder if DCForums has any new hacks to fix this.

I still go with the one real solution to choosing between the two turbo setups.. and i strongly strongly stand by it because it seems to be the only way to settle it once in for all for any given person.
Flip a coin.
And I say that with all seriousness, because you will tear hairs out deciding between the two. They both have their ups and downs.
I won't say anymore, cuz it's just going to turn into another star vs hrc debate. =X

true flip a coin....they are pretty much even, because the advantages and disadvantages cancle each other out so, they are basically the same, cept different things happen at different times

I was not going to reply to this obvious reasons. But...
first both are not the same, just the size of the turbo makes the kits pretty different.
if what you want is quick spool up and hit full boost at lower RPMs then go HRC if you don't mind the "lag time" on spool up and not getting all your power till the higher rpms then go with the bigger turbo.
if you don't know much about turbos and can't do much more than change the oil you might want to rely on HRC's detailed instalation instructions and customer support.
Also one other thing to note is that as experienced by several people on the board the fuel pump from HRC is very noisy.
Just a few little things to consider.
Late.
