16732, Ultimate STAGE 3 Posted by rameencool, Mar-03-02 09:30 AM
Ok, after spending WAY too much time reading posts and not finishing final papers, this is an attempted distillation of what i've seen. I am (was) looking into getting HRC's stage 3- in terms of performance. Budget of around say 4000-5000+.
So what i have come up with is this: Star Stage 2 with BB upgrade, HRC fuel pump, no FPR (dont need?), S-AFC, Crane Ignition with retard, JS Safeguard unit (nessesary?), 600cc RC injectors, low compression JC pistons and forged eagle rods, crame turbo cams with retainers and springs, oil pump, water pump, Boost contoller(your preferances??), and magnecor wires.
Your thoughts, PROS and CONS, what am i missing, what dont i need...
thanks guys, your help and experiance is a great resource and hopefully will save me $$.

600cc injectors are to big for the AFC to control. The max size that is usable is 550cc. And you will need a FPR. The S-FMU is the prefered choice.

ok...sfmu from HRC right??
Well, i was trying to stick with the piggyback setup but how much of a differance will there be???
Also, i thought that FPR wasnt nessesary with larger injectors?? I thought i read somewhere that they increase fuel temp. which is BAD. Correct me here guys......
Thanx

When Dave says "S-FMU" he means Super Fuel Management Unit made by Vortex Engineering.

I thought the S-AFC could handle 625cc injectors or thats what i was told.

I am not definintley absolutly sure but I have heard that it can only handle up to 550's on our cars. I know on the 4g63's it handles 625's

JS Safeguard unit (nessesary?) - I would pass on this. For the cost you can get better things like a standalone.
600cc RC injectors - Too large to idle properly with the stock ecu - go for a 440-550 at the most
oil pump, water pump, - why?

HRC fuel pump is really unnecessary as well. You get the Walbro 255HP pump w/ your star kit and it will flow plenty as long as you tune your fuel setup correctly.
If you want #'s to back it up, check corbin's site... http://www.houstonhardware.com/~cbehnken/chooseinj.html
