16446, Auto...Turbo or Nitrous? Posted by Vectorracing_B, Feb-26-02 07:01 AM
What do you guys think is best for an AUTO eclipse? I have a cheap intake with a hole in it and I am running on stock header with cat-back.
Nitrous- basic wet kit + bottle heater + Header + Intake + P&P intake manifold.
Turbo- Turbo stageI kit.
P.S. which is faster? I want to run mid 14 right now.

Personally, I'd go with the turbo for a couple of reasons:
1)It's better in the long run 2)It's got more adjustability
I'm going boost in the VERY near future. Nitrous is good and cheap too, but it doens't have the adjustablilty or functionality of boost. Go with the hairdryer man.

turbo, since you're auto (like me) you wont lose boost when it shifts up

With a year of nitrous refills you could basically have your turbo...think about it...

id say turbo is more wurth it cuz it would suck to run out of n2o in a middle of a race and lose cuz your bottle ran empty. turbo is allways there for you. as long as you take care of her, shel take care of you ;)
plus there is NOTHING like a bov
turbo, accept no substatutes

If you want to run 14's, I think it will be real hard on an auto with stage 1. Dan ran a best of 15.9 at the track with a stage 2 (I think he was only running around 7 to 8 psi though). I think the auto really hurts. It all depends on how often you would use nitrous. If you would only use it maybe a couple times a week, then I'd get that. But if you want power all the time, get the turbo.

auto doesn't hurt that bad, a friend of mine has a 400 hp car (trans am) it runs constant 11's.........

v8's don't have to spool up ;)

it's a v6, and it does have to spool up, but autos launch under boost

There is no v6 trans am

Even though an auto laucnhes under boost, it isn't going to pull like a 5speed would, not without a torque converter -- you still have to deal with the low rpms. As far as holding boost through gears when shifting up, it won't be as efficient as a 5speed.

15.9??/ w/ stage 2?? he has issues.
1st week i was turbod, i ran 16.3 on 3 lbs of boost, no intercooler, pig-rich and stock exhaust. oh yea, aand on tires that were just recently weighed at over 50lbs each w/ tires ;) (thats why i sold them, lol)
expect the auto to run ~1+/- second slower than an equally prepped 5spd

Yes I quite definitely have issues. Too little time and money to figure out exactly what at the moment... but I KNOW somethings wrong. I can feel it for sure, and trying different tuning settings isn't fixing anything. If anyone wants datalogs, I'll give em to you cheep! heh :)
What exhaust did you have? I've got the GS-T, and that's probably part of the problem...

I thought that sounded way way way too slow! My bro ran 15.9 naturaly with little mods (5-speed) I figured the longer gears would allow me to be at full boost for the entire gear making more power. As of the feed back I got from the nitrous boys it seems I would be better off with nitrous. Low 14's with 75shot UDP, CAI, header, exhaust and no internal upgrades! I need to beat that time to change my mind and go turblow.
