Ok... I am doing some turbo research, I was gonna get a motorcycle but I have scratched that and I have decided to blow some air into my rock solid motor. I am sure this is not the smart thing to do but for some reason this has taken the place of me wanting a bike. One extreme to the next I guess.

I think I am going with the Star Stage 2 since the kit seems to have everything for a good price and from the post I read here it runs cooler temps then the others... Not wanting to rehash a post war on which is better ( I missed that since I was not into charge my car back when this board was buzzing with opinions on the subject).

But if can email one of you I would like to hear your opinions on the kits for our cars.
I am not into wanting 5000bph at the wheels... I just want to get a lil more power to the wheels using low psi.

My question is this:

In the Star Kit info at turbogs.com http://www.turbogs.com/faqs/star_performance_faqs.htm#16

There is a question about a Blow Off Valve

The kits comes with a HKS BY-Pass Valve ... I take it this is not the same as the BOV.

I know the BOV returns the boost build up back into the atmosphere during gear change...
Not sure what the By-pass valve is. But I take it we need both to Add the turbo to prevent damage
to it.

Also how many of you use electronic boost controllers? What model is a good one to get?

Thanks again... I know these questions have been asked and answered before.

On the comparison of kits I would be happy to get your opinions via email.

Thanks...

Uh ok well the that HKS By pass valve is probably a HKS BOV. I got the BOV with my stage 1 kit, pretty sweet too. You got the basic concept of what a BOV does. To add a little more the BOV is a VALVE that open up when it senses vacuum in the intake manifold. YOu get vacuum in the intake manifold when you let off the throttle. So it opens when you let off the gas really quickly. Basically what is happening is that when you close the throttle plate during heavy boost the boosted air pressure slams into it and wants to go the other way. Now turbos are only suppose to go one way because of the exhuast flow. When that air goes back into the compressor it forces the turbine wheel to go the other way, this is bad for your turbo and it will eventually wear down faster over time. So what the BOV does is release the pressure as its going back through the intake piping.

NA cars don't need a BOV because the air can go out through the filter just fine and you not bouncing back X amount of PSI in a NA system.

Damn here I go again writing too much. Hehe don't worry I asked a lot of questions when I was going to do forced induction also ^_^

As on the kits I believe either one is good. Thought I"ve never seen the HRC kit in person. I hear good things from both kits. Hehe the only thing I would base it on is price, which one you can get cheaper with more value :P

Haha night refueling, I wish there were such a thing!

"I just want to get a lil more power to the wheels using low psi."

Trust me on this.....Everyone who goes turbo thinks they are only going to run low psi. You will want to turn it up eventually. 4-5 psi gets old fast. One day you'll lose to a mustang or something and then your gonna think about running more boost. Next thing you know you'll be getting a FMIC and a cat back and then you'll be wanting pistons and rods. Its just a matter of time.

alot of people use greddy profec b's, because it has a switch to let you change between two boost settings. Helps when launching on the drag.. and also lets you keep it on a low boost when you're not out killing hondas. (though i don't know why you'd need high boost for that. heh)
