1 - 170 psi
2 - 125 psi
3 - 140 psi
4 - 160 psi

What do you guys think, rebuild before I turbo or what? My performance shop guy says that he can get an engine for me for 1280 shipped. Then I would probably get the Howell rebuild kit. Tell me what you think I should do.

did you try putting oil in the cylinders that had low compression? and if the #'s go up then you know its got to do with your rings or pistons. Have you had a leak down test? Cause valves not seating will also cause lower compression.
1st I have a leak down done, and recheck the compression using oil in the low cylinders. And if it is your rings/ pistons, then save your self the future headache and get the rebuild kit. That was you know for sure your bottom end will take all the power you put in it

Damn man, more tests? Shiot! I did not do the compression test so I doubt that they put oil in the cylinders. So with nothing else to go on with just these numbers, does it look like I should rebuild?

i would rebuild, casue that 125 is pretty low. You could always just buy some je pistons and new rings, then just strengthen your stock rods. This would save you cash now and dino said that the rods after being strengthened should hold around 350 hp, which would be plenty for awhile

also don't buy the new engine just rebuild the one you have!!

how do you do a compression test? I have a car with a full 24,000 miles on it :P wanna see it's compression lol

go to an auto parts store and buy the tester, its like $30

Personally, I'd recommend a rebuild with upgraded internals before getting a turbo kit. Just think, suppose you get the turbo kit first, sooner or later you'll want to run higher boost. Then you'll have to yank the engine for a rebuild. Plus, your current compression numbers are pretty low. Oh, and why buy another when you could just rebuild yours; use that money to beef up your internals now, then get a turbo kit later.
