15921, Why is sooo much oil coming outta breather? Posted by Dualgen2, Feb-18-02 02:34 AM
I know one of the possiblities according to my friend is that I fried my rings since theres smoke coming out of breather along w/ oil. Im leaking oil a lot but theres no point in adding any until my light goes on or theres nothing left on my dipstick which I look at whenever I go to school and work. Any other possiblities of hat could be wrong like my oil pump or something? Im getting compression test done tonight so Ill post that when I get home but Ididn't think that would cause a lot of oil to come outta breather. O well something new is up w/ car weekly it seems. -Dave

WElcome to the fried rings club. The compression numbers are going to be low IMO, Thats also why your dyno numbers were so low. Rebuild it and come back stronger and pushing more boost! }>

NOOOO I hope not cause I got like 1300 to myname now. 1100 will go bye bye to Howell kit then god knows how much to install. So who wants to rebuild my motor?? hah and should a rebuild a separate block which Im getting for $100 or should I just rebuild one in car now? -Dave

just drain the oil and leave it be, lol I think the best move now is public transportation until you rebuild

The rings will be fine. Rings don't get damaged from boost or detonation.
You may have a cracked piston, however. The compression test will tell you..

yeah darkone is right you probably cracked a piston trust me I've gone through so many pistons messing around with turbo, I've never broke any piston rings. if your compression is below 150 on one of the cylinders then you probably cracked a piston how much are you boosting?

below 150? Im pretty sure my #'s before I turbo'ed was 110,110,110, 90 I believe. I ran 6 psi for 2 months and on dyno I raised it to 7 w/ crappy boost controller then a little more and it jumped to 10 1/2, then we turned it down a little but stayed at 10 1/2 so I got to pulls on dyno at 10.5 psi then brought it back down to 8.5psi which is where I kept it for the day my car seemed to be working and it was pretty darn fast considering my duno results. Still kinda surprised 2 pulls at 10.5psi could fuck up my car that bad even w/ the 370 injectors, AFC and it was tuned. Maybe somehow they tuned it wrong but there a good shop so I dont see how. Ill post compression results whenever work has time to do it. -Dave

"before I turbo'ed was 110,110,110, 90 I believe"
That can't be right, probably more like 210,210,210,190. Which is good. If it was that low I'm surprised the engine could push the car. Go to a shop (anything from a Jiffy Lube to a performance shop) and have them do a comp. test. If you're below 150, welcome to the "I seriously need a rebuild" club.

woops I meant 210... I kinda aint thinking now cause Im soo pissed at my car I cant really think. To bad I dont have the $ to rebuild although my friend said he could do it at Lincoln Tech as class project for free.. sound good or no? -Dave

So have you done another comp. test yet?? Mine ran great for awhile then i first noticed smoke comming out the breather, then a few days later it was oil, and now lots of oil comes out if i boost. Even if you cracked a piston (ringland probably) as long as you be nice to the car (keep it filled with oil and dont go boosting around) your car should be ok till you can afford the rebuild. I've been leaking oil like that for like 6-7 months now, but i go real easy on her.

wow it would be hard to not push it ever but it is do able and worth it. People tell me not to drive it but I got class and work so I only drive there and back. We will see what happens w/ this "free labor" my friend told me about if my block was a class project. -Dave

Your rings are fine.. you have blow by due to cracked pistons. Definately time to rebuild. I've been through how many pistons already soooo....
