15807, sputtering real bad!!!!
Posted by 96venger, Feb-16-02 03:58 PM
Well on my S FMU I had the wrong spring and couldn't get the correct amount of FP at idle. So I got my heavy duty spring and put it in.
I set the FP at almost 50 and like 90 on 6psi.
It ran fine right afer i did this.
I park the car for a good 5 hours. come back and start it and it was runing rough. I let it idle for about 8 mins.
So i take it for a drive and OMG when driving normal it hardly moves and is sputtering Really bad, putt putt putt putt. The car doesn't want to go anywhere like as if it doesn't have any gas. When I floor it and make boost it seems to run ok, stops sputtering, but still isn't 100%.
What gets me is that it was runnin great with low FP but now that it is where it is supposed to be it runs awfull, I didn't think I was going to make it home, cause it just wouldn't move, just putt putt putt as I push the gas.
It was also shaking real bad

what do you guys think ............flooded maybe???

Help me out
Thanks

Yeah that is what I was thinking too rich, but i am talking it is real bad at like 3k RPM'sit doesn't want to move.
But my fuel press gauge says it is where it is supposed to be?
I don't understand????
My car is white and the back bumber is now Black just from a 20 min drive. It was cleaned before that drive too.

what size injectors you got?

The injectors are stock, but that shouldn't be a problem right now.
Not with the levels I am running.
It should run fine, with the amount of fuel press., boost level and boosted FP.

Well I just had my car up in a garage looking at it, trying to take some fog lights off, but when I pulled out there was 4 oil puddles, three were probably about 2.5" in diameter.
Plus it looks like oil but it doesn't look like oil.
It has some watery stuff in it too, and a light green spots in it.
A guy at work says it could be a head gasket. Would that make it run like it is and sputtering???

Sounds like a really rich fuel problem. I experienced a similar problem when I first installed 370cc's w/o an S-AFC. The engine sputtered, as if it's going to cut off, and it doesn't want to move, eventhough I was heavy on the gas pedal. The problem went away when I leaned out the fuel system with an S-AFC. In your case, the base fuel pressure is probably too high. Do you have any kind of fuel management unit, such as, an Apex S-AFC or the HKS? Even with the heavy duty FMU you should be able to greatly lean it out some.

Yeah that was it, too rich.
I leaned out the static/idle press. and now it drives fine.
