the star kit is here, and on March 17th my car wil be going in the shop for its engine rebuild(Howell Kit) and installation of the turbo kit. my question is, after its done and the engine is broken in, what is the most i can boost on the star fuel system? my next mods after the rebuild/kit will be injectors and S-AFC, but they wont come for probably a couple months after. i have "modest" goals for the car, after i get the injectors(which kind/where should i get em?) and the S-AFC, i would like to run 12psi. anything else ill need other than what i mentioned to do that with a built engine? will i need to change the disk in the vortech FMU to something different? thanks for ANY help, D-day is coming soooooon!!!

I would'nt go over 10psi with stock injectors.

I wouldn't go over 7. People have, but the numbers are pretty scary. If you boost 7psi, your fuel pressure should be (50+7*12) which is 134 psi. Even with the fuel pump, your fuel system won't go much over 100psi, so if the 12:1 disk is the correct calibration, you're going to get leaner after about 5psi. Like I said, people have done it. You can and it could last for a while, but I'd rather be safe since I don't have a backup car.

and yes, w/ bigger injectors you will need to change the calibration disk out. Check out corbins page to calculate that.

I boost at about 8-8.5 psi and I have the walbro pump like the star kit. I run rich at 8 psi. I recommend not going over 8 psi on pump gas. With race gas 9-10psi should be ok. But if you really want to be safe stay at 7psi or under.

What injector size should be ok with 10-12psi? and where can i buy them from? thanks a lot for the help guys.

I figure my fuel system is good/safe for 10psi daily. Other factors like pistons/rings come into play with that boost, but it will not be my fuel system that causes my engine to blow.

I know with the star kit(T3/T04E) and having a 97 RS(returnless fuel system and the fuel filter/stock fuel press regulator is back by the fuel tank) that the car idles and drives fine.

BTW: if I wanted to run 12psi safely(built motor), I would just buy 440 injectors and S-AFC. That has already been proven to work with 14psi boost. Above that, I think timing is an issue, heavy duty clutches, axles, transmissions. If my motor were built, I would run 10psi daily with 14psi at the track and call it good. My car will never be a drag race car, there are numerous other choices that can do a better job with a lot less money. That said, 300HP feels good in a car that weighs 3000LB with driver.

I just started running 8 1/2 psi once i got 370 injectors, AFC and I got a Holley Fuel pump and it was tuned and Im losing oil liek crazy so I dunno if thats cause Im still in my first 2000 miles on being turbo or if this will continue. If I were u I woulnd't turn boost up past 7 for first 3000 miles or so until until u change oil.

I ran 10psi daily with the stock star fuel system/walbro but you should be more worried about your pistons.

Its real easy to tell if you have enough fuel to run 10psi with the star system. Get an EGT and an AF gauge. I did, they read okay and I kept it there and that was with 10.6:1 compression.

Yep an egt gauge is a MUST if you want to run high boost.

Just remember to LOOK AT IT. When i blew, my EGT's probably went far beyand anything i expected. I never looked at the gauge, and i never let off. Don't do that.

Yes get EGT and SAFC. Fuckers keep on telling me (not from this board) "man turn up the boost" I just go "waiting for the EGT gauge so I can tune it properly." Just don't get greedy with the boost, because a blown engine is the last thing you want.

Thanks for the replies guys. the engine will be built, so i dont think ill have much to worry about with 10psi. and ive already gotten an EGT gauge. ill keep it around 8psi until i upgrade the fuel. i checked the injectors that DeanoD told me about at summitracing, and they only come in quantities of 8's. any one know where i can get them by the piece? thanks.

You looked online and only saw them in a set of 8 for $249. You never called Summit, because if you did, you would know that you can buy them separately for the price I indicated above.

When you are ready to drop the $210 for the new fuel system(injectors and recal kit)make your phone calls. BTW: you can buy just a 6:1 disc/ring for the fmu, but for a approx. $10 more, you can get the whole recal kit.

One more thing, if you are not mechanically inclined, then I suggest letting them change the injector with the motor out. You will not enjoy changing them yourself(motor in) and it will probably cost you 2 hours in labor to get them to do it once the car is up and running. I could do it in 10 minutes with the motor out.
