going honda hunting tonight for the the first time with my turbo. do these octance boost things increase horsepower at all or does it just lower detonation?

lower detonation to my knowledge.. and you'll burn fuel more efficiently and affectively.

I have a magazine, cant remember which one but they tested that NOS octance booster on a TT supra and it add somewhere around 12hp to the wheels. It actually added more hp than the intake system for the TT supra. We dont have that car so gains arent going to be that much but atleast the NOS octance booster has been proven to add power.

prepare to buy new o2 sensors if you use octane boosters very often, or fuel system additives in general cause they tend to destroy em...

haha that NOS thing sound like a buncha bull, how do you know it hasn't gained 12 HP from just HP it lost? Those are all gimicks unless they did a dyno test did they? Like how they say K&N filter adds like 15 HP, I bet the car they tested it on had a dirty ass clogged filter.

Basically ocatane booster will raise your octane rating. This makes the fuel burn slower thus preventing detonation.

also, it BARELY raises the octane rating. when it says 8 points on the bottle, it means .8. as in, you run 93 octane, then add a bottle of NOS octane booster rated at 8, your final octane rating is going to be 93.8, not 101 like you would think.

it is extremely overpriced and very uneffective. at the vortex boards they had a good discussion going, and the active ingredient in these octane boosters is available in its pure form at paint stores! i forget the name, but its way cheaper (like $8-10 a gallon vs $5 a bottle of booster) and works way better. they had appropraite ratios and everything, man i need to find that link...

In theory (sorry guys pullin theorys out my ass again) If the rate of burn on the piston is slower than that means you are pushing on that piston longer... that COULD give you a slight boost in hp.

used. I know you can buy it in a metal gallon container. We have people using a gallon to a full tank of 93 pump gas. I am not sure what it is doing to O2 sensors or filters, but I do know it raises the octane rating/helps prevent detonation.

I am not going to use it. I like the idea of adding 3 gallons of C116 leaded race fuel to a tank of 93 pump gas. Or you could just use 101 unleaded race fuel and call it good. That costs hella $ though.

on the 4g63, higher octane is better cause the ecu pulls back timing(less hp) when it detects knock. if you use a higher octane gas the engine will get less knock and the ecu will advance timing allowing for more power which is where you will see a hp increase. i use to use octane booster but didn't notice a difference so i stopped using it. i currently run no less than 93 octane in the gsx. but if you are having detonation problems you could try it to see if it helps.

They did dyno, they did a before and after. For intake system, Exhaust and NOS octane booster. Let me find the magazine.

Sorry guys, they did the test on a 1995 Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec.

Base Dyno---> 244.1hp
Apexi Power Air Intake---> 257.2hp - 13.1hp gain.
Veilside Type-IV Raching Exhaust---> 294.1hp - 36.9hp gain.
NOS Off Road Formula Octane Booster---> 309.6hp - 15.5hp gain.

All gains are too the wheel rears also.

Yea yea yea, we all wish we had TT Supra's or TT RX7's, but you Eclipse NT guys getting hooked up phat with HRC kits, stage 5 and your running 11's, maybe 10's. Its all set up for you guys. On the subject, octane boost that give HP, pretty cool. I bet most cars would only see a few pnies, 5 at most.

Turning up the boost? LOL, wouldnt that be pointless to see how much a certain aftermarket part gives in horsepower? Also, It was a completely stock Skyline until the mods they added. Hence, no boost controller.

With the expensive cars like TT Supra's and TT RX7's come a price. Instead of paying 500$ for exhaust, your paying 1000$+. Same goes with intake, turbo upgrades and every other kind of part you can think of.

I use pure toluene when racing my car (it's a paint thinnner you buy at the paint store). I use it because I get mad detonation at only 5lbs boost... if I add 1 gallon of toluene for every 3 gallons of gasoline, then my knock goes away with no other changes. This is only effective up to about 7lbs boost tho so far.
