I'm in the process of ordering guages. First off just want to say that Corbin's custom A/F guage sounds tempting, but I just wanted all my guages to match for anal rententive reasons. Does the autometer A/F guage need any customizing like Wyatt said was needed with use for the Star Kit? Although I'm getting the HRC kit. I've ordered the EGT guage, but it said I needed some kind of probe? Both of these guages are the sports comp series. The EGT product number is 4365. What is this probe and where can I get it? Word of advice, I shopped around all morning and almost order from Nopi, till I saw carparts.com had them for couple bucks cheaper. Anybody wanna add anyting else I might need? Please do add to the list.

OK....

On all of this guage stuff... try ebay. You can get guages pretty cheap there. If you want to buy from a store, don't just look at import stores. Those bigass V8 guys need guages, too. You can buy guages at just about every performance auto store.

About the egt... Autometer sells a pyrometer kit which is just the egt guage, probe and wires all together (so you don't have to buy them separate). You can buy the probe separate if you want (it is a separate autometer part #). I think some guys buy a westech probe and use it with their autometer guage (check the archives... this was discussed this week).

About the air-fuel guage... i think everyone agrees that the air/fuel guage from autometer isn't good for anything but "bling-bling" appeal. You really can't determine any valuable information from it for tuning and stuff. so... if you are going to get an egt guage - you don't really need that shitty air/fuel guage. If you want to tune your fuel curve (like with the apexi S-AFC) then you are going to eventually buy an air-fuel guage with a digital readout (like corbin's). If you want the guage just to look cool... go for it!

One guage you forgot about (especially if you want your guages to all match is a BOOST GUAGE. The HRC kit comes with a boost guage, but it is NOT an autometer and I THINK it is mechanical (guys... some help here). You will want to get an electrical boost guage to monitor your new boost pressure.

I haven't gone turbo yet, but I have bought the guages (in preparation for going turbo):
Autometer Pyrometer Kit (EGT Guage)
Digital Air/Fuel Guage
Fuel Pressure - for monitoring the raised fuel pressure
Water Temperature - These will most certainly go up...so I want a readout of the new temps.
Oil Pressure - You are tapping into the oil system for the turbo - I think it is a good idea to make sure the blood in the engine is all good.

One last thing... If you have automatic transmission... you'll want to get a tranny-temp guage.

does anyone know if the sport comp series from autometer light up? Also what kind of guages is everyone getting? Is a 0-1600 EGT enough or does it need to go higher? sorry just full of ? since my kit will be here soon.

I still have my blinky light a/f meter, but it's worth hardly more than a light show. It provides a REALLY GENERAL estimation of your air/fuel mixture, but it just isn't nearly as useful as a digital. First off, the blinky light measure is only a general estimation. I can have 8 lights up and am not sure whether it means .85 or .92. That's a pretty big difference. With my digital, I can see what it means. Second, when you're turbo'ing down the road at full boost, you don't have much time to process what your a/f measure is, by glancing at a blinky light meter. With a precise digital meter, it's right there.

I know it's a less conventional guage to mount, but Mike Kulaga has come up with a terrific mount for it. You can buy one of those universal windshield radar detector mounts from Radio Shack and it fits Corbin's meter perfectly. I bought one right after I saw Mike's setup. I've taken a couple of pictures of it but I need to upload it still.

I got boost and EGT now and A/F and Fuel Pressure are on way. Although people are telling me A/F is the dumb verison of an EGT and you dont need it. But I like the lights haha plus its harder to know if your lean or rich w/ EGT.

The boost gauge that comes with the HRC is Autometer, and it is mechanical. (thats all you need).

You can get the Chiltons for your car at any local autoparts store. Pep Boys, Advance Auto, Autozone should carry it. I got mine at a local shop..not even a big name or anything.

I agree with everything Jason said in response to your other questions, so I will leave it at that.

id say more guages the better but top 3 for me is:

boost, egt, and coolant temp... a/f isnt as important because when you tune your car... u usually set it at that and use datalogger and not change boost or fuel settings

For me and I'm still NA A/F Meter and EGT are crutual for tuning. I need to accuracy of the digital A/F meter and the safety of the EGT. I don't have a datalogger, not everybody does, so the only way to do tuning is with an accurate A/F Meter and EGT.
