1546, Turbo kit on stock engine? Posted by EclipseGS1997, Feb-07-01 11:38 AM
do you guys think 7psi all the time and 10psi periodically(at the track or when someone wants to race) would be ok on a stock engine with the right fuel upgrades? i was going to build my motor, but it will cost a LOT more than i had originally thought. long as i replace the head gasket, get a performance fuelpump, a FPR, and bigger injectors(400cc?) would i be able to run that boost on the stock bottom end? i cant decide which turbo kit to get...the star is supposed to have a better turbo, its about 1k cheaper, and already comes with an intercooler. but Hahn has so much experiance with our engines....also, on either system, i think 5psi is the least u can run with stage 1 kits, if u have a stage2(with FMIC) can u still run just 5psi if you want to? id love to run 5psi while commuting, and bump it up for the track. thanks for any info.

No need to worry about getting a fuel pump. Both kits include them. As far as boost, I'd stay 5-7psi for daily driving on a stock engine, with an intercooler. Just make sure you watch all the gauges and you're getting the correct amount of fuel. As long as your engine is in good running order and you keep an eye on things you should'nt have any problems. I myself plan on running 12psi on race gas for the Drag wars this month in Houston =o) Now, about a better turbo. That all depends on what you want. The HRC kit is packed with a Super 16G turbo. Very nice indeed and very quick to spool. With this kit you'll get better 0-60 times and better bottom end power. Now, with the Star kit you get a T3/T04 hyrbird Turbonetics turbo. Also, there are numerous upgrades available. This turbo will take longer to spool but has stronger top end and will provide all the power you'll ever need. Now, get the T3/TO4E ball bearing turbo and it'll spool just as quick and pack a higher punch in the top end as well. So, its all in personal taste. Good luck!

I believe if you get the stage 1 from HRC the wastegate is set at 5-7 psi, then just install your FMIC in addition. Or you can ask Bill to give you a stage 2 with the stage one setting on the Wastegate. Go with the Hahn!!!!!!!! aside from Wyatt, who here is for us for the Starr kit? now who do we have for help with the HRC kit? Mr. Hahn himself! thats enough for me. P.S if it was not for Wyatt and his info on the Star system we would all be pigs in space with it. Thank god for Wyatt! I have theHRC so I am alittle bias on this subject, but I just like the fact that HRC is here for us. SEE YA!!!!!!!!MWC

Its very helpful to have help like that, but I'm a do-it-yourselfer at heart. I say, learn your car and turbo system inside and out. Learn what it takes to install and maintain it. Learn what to look for and how to fix it. Become informed and learn as much as you can. Then answer to yourself. Thats how the FAQ people are able to answer your FAQ =o)

I agree with the guys here; Running 5-7 PSI of boost daily shouldn't affect engine life or performance, if you properly keep up with maintenance (more preventives)--more frequent oil change, and tune-up. A friend of mine has been running his '99 Integra, with a Drag turbo kit (7 psi boost), for a little over a year now and the engine is still strong--compression and performance--with no known adverse affects. Just my .02 cents.

Thanks for the help guys. ill probably go with the Hahn stage 2, its a little more but i do like having the piece of mind that i can ask the actual creator of the turbo what the problem might be. but...at the Hahn website, it says the stage 2 is 8-10psi, is this the ONLY psi you can run, or, if i built the engine, could i run like 15psi with the same stage? thanks for any help.

You could run 15 and higher, but would want to entertain the idea of fuel upgrade and bigger injectors if I were you. Also if you are thing of doing the motor, save up and buy the stage 3 0r 4. You will get all you need that route. SEE YA!!!!!!!!MWC
