For those of you that are looking at, or own a set of Crower rods that aren't installed yet, you might want to read...

Standard Chrysler rods come with two notches in the rod big end web that is designed to allow splash onto the piston pins and underside of the pistons (for some cooling) as well as throwing oil on the cylinder wall for some added cooling and lubrication.

The Crower rods that most of us are buying have no such notches.
Therefore that "designed in" oiling is not present.

Had a lengthy exchange with Brian Crower today, and he stated that if we felt it was necessary then we could return the rods to Crower and they would modify them free of charge. He did stipulate that approx 90% of the rods they were selling they were selling un-modified, and weren't seeing related failures.

Just a FYI. Nce to see a manufacturer stand behind their product...

If it were my rod, I would *definitely* get the rods drilled for an oiling hole. The intention is to squirt oil on the cylinder bore's major thrust surface to prevent piston and/or cylinder bore scoring. When you install the piston & rod assemblies, you want the squirter to be aiming for the right side of the cylinder bore, as viewed from the rear of the engine. Look at the stock piston & rod as a guide.

The stock rod looks like it was planned to be drilled instead of notched. Look at the big end of the rod on its right side: there is a lump where the drilling would have been. They notched it instead, probably because it's cheaper to just forge it in.

I agree with the sound theory and think that if someone is about to get rods go ahead and have this done, but if you already have them in, don't worry about it. HRC is running 10's and 11's on these rods. Enough said.
