15119, fuel cutting out... Posted by dzaVenge, Feb-05-02 11:40 PM
i have an hrc stage 1. every once in a while if i'm going up a hill at low rpms my fuel will cut in and out. Also if i'm just driving along at low rpms and low speeds and as i start to take my foot off the gas, the fuel cuts out. Its just cuts out and cuts right back on. Going up a hill, its worse b/c it does it a couple times. Going up a hill in higher rpms like when i floor it, the fuel wont cut. It does it even more now that i have an exhaust leak at the downpipe. Is the leak a great cause in this? or is it plainly that the hrc voltage clamp isn't that great?
Any help would be great, thanks

It sounds more like a fuel pump malfunction than a electronic cut off by the ecu. But it also might be something more simple (i.e. fuel line kink, bad plugs, bad wires, clogged fuel filter)
But go ahead and check both. Check all your fuel pump wiring, fuel lines, and other related items to the fuel system and make sure it's all connected well. The posts at the inline fuel pump can be a concern as can the relay depending on how you've wired everything.
Also, if you are wary of your voltage clamp, hook a multimeter up to your map sensor wiring and have a look at it under boost. Under boost, the voltage shouldn't exceed 4.79. If it does, then that's the problem.
But low rpm fuel cuts sounds more generally fuel related as opposed to turbo-system related. Like I stated above, I'd check all your fuel lines, for possible kinks, and mount the fuel pressure guage on your windshield and see how it looks when you have the fuel cuts. If you still can't find anything, go ahead and change your fuel filter, spark plugs, and spark plug wires. It could be any one of them. (I know it might be a pain to do these things, but it's better to elminate those things as causes for ~$60 than to pay someone else three times that to possibly come up with nothing)
If it's not occurring under boost, it's not related to the voltage clamp. Moreover, an exhaust leak will not cause any sort of fuel cut.

ok, i'll check the wiring. my guess is that its the relay for the aux fuel pump.
now if its the wiring, my other problem may be related. a week ago i was getting 4psi and everything was working great. I got pissed at the cartech fpr so i closed the ratio valve all the way and opened it where it was supposed to be (just in case it was in the wrong spot) while i was doing that my car must have been shooting up or something b/c now i'm at 7psi. The problem is that when i floored it, my gauge fuse blew (the one under the drivers side dash) Its happend twice. And now the fuse that works the cruise control doesn't work (whichever fuse that is) I haven't been driving hard at all b/c of the leak and b/c my car decided to do 7psi and i'm not intercooled.
hmm, long story short... the fuses that are blowing, could that be related to my fuel cutting? same wiring problem perhaps?

It might...It just depends on which sensors might be affected by a wiring problem. If your guages and/or cruise control guages are being knocked out by blown fuses, chances are there is a electrical problem somewhere. I would guess there's a chafed wire causing some problems.
I'm not going to make the connection between the fuel problems and wiring problems, because outwardly, it seems somewhat tenuous. But that's not to say, they might be related through an electrical surge to your ecu or an important sensor like your map sensor.
It sounds to me as if you have some things to look over, and a lot of electrical wiring to check. I would jump on that first of course. One time, I had some guage fuses blow repeatedly until I found out where my culprit was. It's a pain, but you need to get this fixed.
The boost issue sounds totally irrelated from the electrical issue. You may have had a boost leak to your boost guage causing the lower reading, perhaps from a vacuum line being shared by the FPR. Who knows? Maybe it's a new problem.
But these are the types of things that make DSM's maintenance needy. Just check and replace EVERYTHING! lol ;-)

I ran 7psi without an intercooler. Put intercooler on and I get 5psi. StageI is suppose to be 6-7psi. Its normal man. No problem there. First thing I would do is fix the exhaust leak because you know thats a problem. Then I would look into all the expert advise above.

tru... i'm sure the boost will go down 1 or 2 when i'm intercooled, i just heard that its not to safe to run 7psi not intercooled.
due to the weather i wasn't exactly able to re-wire anything last night. but i found a new problem. my egt gauge needle dances to my music. It would cut out (going back to where the needle would be when your car is off) and when the thing got power again it'd go to the correct (assuming) temp. My battery voltage has been low 13's (13.1-13.3) I was showing someone my stereo system and the battery went to 10.2 (i hear thats clinically dead) And my alternator sucks.
