15024, Upgraded BOV or bored TB?
Posted by charger71, Feb-04-02 01:47 PM
Which would be better to get?

I'm ordering an hrc stage I.. I would like a loud bov, something that people will hear... but I dont know if that would work with a stage I and auto tranny..

Any advice?

Get a good BOV!!...You'll enjoy it more than a overbored TB. It'll improve your boost response between shifts and let everyone know 'wussup'. Actually I'm getting sick of my GReddy BOV whistle..it's always pisssshuuuuu all the time. I want a different sound sometimes like an HKS or Blitz..anyone feel me

It honestly doesn't make a difference whether your throttle body is bored not. With turbo, you've got forced induction. So it doesn't really matter how big the throttle body is.

so, anyone recommend a loud BOV for a stage I?

Sorry bro but your auto like me.You ain't gonna hear no ppsshhh sound every shift, just when you let off the throttle under pressure.Have you considered a boost controller?Even a regular MBC will dramatically improve boost response even w/ just 5 PSI.Bored TB is good for you only if you have it port matched to the intake manifold.

No, it is always better to get more air into an engine. The more air you can cram in, and the more fuel you can add, the more horsepower you can produce... bored tb is a good thing always, improves throttle response by helping your engine breathe better...

Couldn't have said it better Brad. That is why 2G 4G63 people swap their 52mm TBs for 1st gen 60mm throttle bodies. More air = more power.

BOV or TB

Would you prefer asthetics(BOV) or performance(TB)?

Considering that I'm auto and wont even hear the bov when the car shifts, I guess the BOV will wait..

Would I be better off with the Manual boost controller or the bored TB? And can you recommend a MBC or let me know which not to get? There are a bunch on ebay..

Sorry for the tons of newbie questions :) and thanks all for the answers!!

i have the turboxs type h RFL and its really loud. I had the crappy hrc stage 1 plastic bov and it leaks like crazy. Its OK but dont expect much air to go to your engine lol. Even though I'm stage 2, every stage 1 i installed has this darn bov leaking.

A turboxs type h rfl on a stage 1 sounds nice.

dont get a bored TB. They will not beable to bore it out as much as the ones on the market. so get the BOV.

get the bov :)

i have the turboxs type H-RFL, and im auto too. you wont hear the bov when your racing, but that doesnt mean you cant blow off at every car on the street and all the pedestrians (its fun to watch em get scared shitless and jump 3 feet in the air) :)

its the most addictive sound, lol

is the type S the same? the type H says is for 10-30 psi.. Where else can I find them?

thanks guys!!

no, the type s is the lower model. i havent heard it, but supposedly it sounds similar, just not as loud.

i know it says for 10-30, but even when i was running 4lbs, the type h worked fine. now its even better at 7lbs

heres a quick video of it:

and this is just in idle ;)

so does that bolt right up to the existing flange or did you have to weld it on?
15044, tial bov
Posted by pn0ymahal, Feb-05-02 03:26 PM
there are different types of tial i believe... i heard that one of the tial bov is loud and DEEP not like the type s.. getting tired of the type s bov already james?

well, it bolted up to the hrc bov flange when i was stage 1, but in that video, that is the home-made fmic piping, so a friend of mine welded the flange to the piping

I heard the tial is only good for higer boost applications, i heard that it is not so responsive at 9 psi? is that correct

does the bov sound louder the more boost you run? would a stage 1 have a lower sounding bov than a stage 2 or 3+?
