14971, injector questions..... Posted by Dave_FL, Feb-03-02 03:02 PM
I want to upgrade my injectors now that I am running 8psi on my stage 2. I want to get some injectors that are small enough to not have an afc. I want them small enough to just let the ecu run them. What size could I get? And where would be the best place to get them? And what kind should I get?

Most say that 310cc is the alrgest we can handle without an S-AFC by way of the 25% of adjustment the ecu is capable of, on its own. For your own margin of safety, relatively speaking, perhaps something a tad less than 300cc would be a good choice. 275cc, perhaps?

Sounds good but where could I get some and is it hard to switch them out?

Anyone else have any suggestions?

24 lb Accel injectors or 24 lb Bosch injectors. Check ebay, they usually come 8 per sale. If you find (8) 24 lb injectors I'll go in half with you on them cause I am looking for 24 lb injectors also.

24 lb injectors will let you run a slightly lower fuel pressure at max boost (92-97 for 9 psi instead of 105-110). 24lb injectors are essentially 252 cc/min injectors. Stock is 235 cc/min. Not a big change. If you could find something a little bigger, that would probably be a better choice. Anything up to 30lb will work. Also, the HRC FPR may not be able to run big injectors. It doesn't have interchangeable disks, so you just have to use the bleed valve. The bleed valve isn't good for large changes, just fine tuning. Just some stuff to think about.

I received my Accel PN# 150130 (30LB/high impedence/saturated/bosch type) injectors today. Summit has them for $38 each/$160 shipped for a set of 4. I have the vortech recalibration kit coming this week and it cost me about $50 shipped. It comes with 4:1/6:1/8:1/10:1/12:1 discs in the kit. 1:1 and 3:1 discs can only be bought separately for about $35 plus shipping. Do not ask me why the price difference? who knows
I am going to use the 6:1 disc with my 30LB injectors. I will let everyone know how it idles/drives under vac/drives under boost/ when I install them. I will also let you know if we had to bump the idle up a bit or install any resistors to get it to idle properly.
Star stage one/6 psi/VC1/vortech fmu
(still cannot believe that with all the people who have talked about using the 30LB injectors(and had them on order months ago), nobody has them installed and running good) it would be nice to have some feedback on how they work----it makes me wonder how many people are for real on this board :(
I do appreciate you Corbin! You have been a great help. Along with a few others....you know who you are.

So can I hook up 30 lb injectors with nothing else but the stock ECU to control it? I am just looking to have enough fuel when I am running high compression to not blow up.

The stock ECU can compensate for 30lb injectors if you are careful with your static fuel pressure (keep it at 50 or less). You'll also have to work out how to get the proper fuel pressure at max boost (need about 65 psi for 9 psi boost). The key is that the ECU can adjust +/- 25% with long term fuel trim and +/- 25% with short term fuel trim. You want to keep most of your short term trim open for changes in driving conditions. If you use up your long and short term trim just compensating for injectors, you won't be able to adjust for changes in driving conditions. You may need +/- 15% of your short term trim free to make quick adjustments. By now, everyone knows where my fuel system pages are. Reference those to work out the details.

If I were to get new injectors I would definetly get the Sfmu. I probably wont be getting injectors untill I rebuild though. I just need to lower my boost down to like 7.5 and wait until I have enough for a rebuild. Then its AFC and 440's.
