I need to install the Egt probe. I am putting it in the exhaust man. right???
Ok how do I need to do this so that the shavings after i drill don't go into the turbo????? Or am I going to have to take this shit all apart???

Most people put theirs in the farthest runner to the drivers side. About 2 inches from the head is good. Some say to start the car and slowly drill the proper sized hole with the engine running. Any chips are supposed to blow out of the hole. I preferred to drill the manifold with it removed from the car. I wanted to be completely certain that no chips would enter the turbine. Whatever you feel comfortable with.

erm would that make it the 4th cyclinder? or the 1st I'm confused. Haha sorry I need an egt also. so the probe should be directly in the path of the exhaust hole right like not inbetween two holes. Haha dangit I'm making it more confusing. :P

I mean in the runner, not the "junction" part of the manifold. You could put it in the junction where the runners meet, I guess. I'd just put it in the #4 runner.

I drilled with car off and then used a magnet to get most of she shavings out... no biggie. if the valves close correctly there should be no suction into to engine block. so what ever shavings are left will go out the exhaust.

I think the safest way is to remove the turbo and manifold. My egt probe hole was tapped with the turbo on, and the guy that did that for me supposedly took precaution when he drilled; and when my engine and i/c pipes were disassembled for the rebuild, I found some small metal shavings in the i/c pipes. I think it came from the egt drilling. Luckily it never made it into the engine block. This might also explained the blown turbo. I would highly recommend spending the extra 2-3 hours to unbolt the turbo and manifold.

theres no way metal shavings from the exhaust manifold can get to the IC piping. they are two isolated systems.
Its very easy to do with the manifold on the engine. let the car idle, and start with the smallest bit, then go up, size by size, until the hole is the right size.
also, wear eye protection or just be really cautious. the shavings go flying back at you since the car is on. the exhuast will push all the shavings out, and they go flying. nearly took my friends eye out doing mine, lol

Same way i did mine.
The metal flakes are so small the wouldn't even leave a mark on the turbine as they just go right out.. don't sweat it. Do it with the car on, you'll be fine. Hot, sweaty, with burnt hands, but you'll be fine.

hehehe,...some of you guys are treating the drill shavings like shrapnel or something! ;-) j/k (I almost thougth Ryan was gonna suggest a bullet proof vest or something!) LOL :P
