Where do you guys mount your catch cans?? I just got it today and I just dont know where to put it. Do I have to drill the holes into the metal piece that comes with it? Anyone have a picture of their mounted RRE catchcan for my viewing purposes? Thanks!!

Not pictures at the moment. I mounted mine on the bolt that screws into the upper side of the valve cover. It is just forward of my throttle body. The left side crankcase breather metal tube almost points directly to the bolt. You will notice there are threads into the valve cover. I cut the bracket(just above and below the drilled holes) that was sent with the catch can and mounted the bracket onto the valve cover and the other hole in the bracket was mounted onto the upper catch can bolt hole. I kind of angles the bracket back towards the throttle body and bent slightly to the left. This allows the catch can to sit just forward and slightly left of my throttle boday and does not interfere with the butterfly return spring. It also fits right next to my intake piping from star. The top of the catchcan (metal filter top) does slightly touch my hood when closed. I have my left side crankcase breather hole routed with silicone hose to the catchcan(4 inches). I removed the hose that connected the valve cover to the throttle body/intake manifold(has pcv valve). I used silicone hose to connect to that valve cover breather to the catch can. I ran the hose so it would not interfere with the throttle cable. I tried to keep the hose as short as possible without any bends. I also wanted to keep the hose level, so if a little oil got into the line, it could drain back into the valve cover and not always drain down to fill the catch can. I used one of the black rubber caps on the catchcan to cover the fitting on the throttle body and used a zip tie to keep it from shooting off/sealed good. 8mm silicone hose is best for this application. 6mm will not fit on the center crankcase breather fitting(8mm is tough enough). 8mm also allows more air to move freely to the vent filter. One more thing to add....the fittings swivel on the catchcan to allow you to angle them for better, straight line hose routing. Remember the shorter the hose length the better. My vacume has increased 3 more when off throttle and normal cruise at 70mph used to be 10, now it is 12. I also notice my egt will NOT go above 1650(I was recently hitting 1700 degrees when nearing redline in 3rd/4th) and I am getting more power out the the ass-o-meter. I believe I was getting hot crankcase air through my pcv valve under boost(not sealing)because my crank case pressure exceeded my 6psi boost pressure. I had so much pressure it was blowing my aftermarked dipstick out and oil would squirt everywhere. Then my make shift catch can was not venting enough pressure and shooting oil through the air tank filter setup I was using. I would blow through it freely without problems, but when I would boost it must have been more pressure than I thought.

Stupid question but catch can for what?

I mounted mine between the ECU and the shock tower.

Used a simple U-shaped bracket that goes up and over the ECU and then uses one of the ECU torx screws as a mount point.



A catch can catches oil. Some cars, especially turbos, spray oil out the crankcase.

!!! ALSO NOTE: I was lazy and didn't check the oil level month or so, as the crankcase vent tube was clogged and the catchcan full. Somehow I expected the thing to overflow the top of the filter when it was full, but now that I think about fluid levels and gravity it makes sense that it never overflowed. I'm guessing a completely blocked crankcase breather would be bad :)

Thanks for the pictures guys!! I now have a lot of ideas of where to put the damn thing. Jeff, you have it "wedged" there? Nothing is actually holding it or did you attached it somehow to the battery case thing?

Nope, nothing is holding it there. It fits nicely between the battery and the upper IC pipe. Doesn't move. Having a short line from the crankcase to the catchcan helps.
