14286, Oil like substance, burning smell... Posted by phrenzy, Jan-27-02 04:33 AM
OK, so I normally drive my car like an old lady, I never get on it for more than a couple seconds. Then yesterday I hooked up my HKS Type 1 Turbo Timer which does the 0-400 meters (essentially a quarter mile) and I wanted to test it out...
So I went out on this back road by my house and set it up to do a run. I was at a dead stop, then I got on it pretty hard. I ran to about 6800 in each gear up to about 95 mph where I hit the end of the 400 meters (I ran a 14.61 on the HKS)
Then I slowed down to about 55 mph and I noticed a slight burning smell. Nothing over powering, but noticable. I was close to home so I went home and popped the hood.
I looked around, didn't see anything huge, but I did notice I few drops of an oil like substance on the left side of the valve cover. Probably about 1/4 teaspoon. It was in a strange place really, cause where it was it almost looked like the only place it could've come from is the hood. It wasn't splattered, so It didn't look like it was blown out of anywhere.
There were also a few drops around the oil lid thing in the valve cover. I don't really think this is anything to worry about, but I'm paranoid. Any ideas?
I am building the bottom end this spring, JE Pistons and rings, Crower connecting rods, metal headgaskets... so If it's blow-by of some sort it should be resolved with the new bottom end.
Thanks
