When I get a 3000Gt, I plan on getting a bit more hp outta the engine. I will be getting the first engine (91-93) which is 20 hp less than newer ones. Anyways, what is the highest(while still safe) psi I could run? Also, what should I start upgrading on the car? I can't think of much to do to it. Sorry if we're not supposed to post about 3000gt's.

well.. i'd say go with the basics - A/F gauge, EGT gauge, boost gauge, K&N. Then go for a boost controller.. etc..

if stock, don't run more than 14.5 psi.

first thing I would buy woudl be a high flow air filter (like a k&N). then get yourself some good spark plugs and wires (I run denso IK 22's and msd wires). also do the fuel pump re-wire and reset your ecu. with that you should be able to run 15 to 15.5 psi safely (acutally quite rich). I would also reccomend gutting out the pre cats and getting a good flowing downpipe like the stillen downpipe and a good exhaust (at least a borla cat-back). by this time, you will probably need a stronger clutch. either an act stage 3or an RPS stage 3 clutch with agood aluminum flywheel (like a fidanza) will work great. since you will be getting a first gen, I would go ahead and replace the output shaft with an upgraded one from Kormex Transmisions in ontario california. . Finally, I would get something like a super-afc or a super afr to fine tune the fuel map to allow a little leaner burn than stock to keep away from fuel cut and to squeeze out a few extra psi of boost. with all this, and proper tires, you should be able to run high to mid 12's consistently. car should make somewhere around 390 flywheel whp if it is healthy.

I test drove a 93 TT 3000GT. The one I was in had a real boost controller and it had 14psi stock so Im pretty sure you could hit around 18-20psi stock.

No, you can not. Armond owns a Stealth TT so this is first hand experience when he speaks.

hehe. you were probably reading the factory boost gauge right? we all know how reliable those thigs are hehehe. Seriously, the 91-93 vr-4 runs 9 psi stock. 94+ hits 12 and falls to 10 at around 4500. The turbos won't even hold more than 17 psi past 6k on a good day.

I have NEVER heard or seen a boost gauge taht was off unless it wasnt correct when the car was off. I think it was stock gauge. That was the only TT3000GT ive ever been in so are they real boost gauges in stock ones? All I know is I was hitting 14psi and too be honest with you it felt like 14psi. It spun for the whole way across a intersection and I run 9psi on my eclipse. The kick in of the 3000GT put me back in my seat HELLA harder than my eclipse.

Yes, its unbelieveable how much power those cars have. It wasnt a badass burn out like you would do in a RWD or FWD car but I could feel the tires spinning. If it was FWD or RWD I would have sat there and spun.

Well, the main reason that the factory boost gauge is wrong in a vr-4 is pressure never "hits" anything in a vr-4 to determine boost. the gauge just reads what the ECU tells it. the car uses a karman vortex MAF sensor (like all the rest of the mitsu engines) and the ecu calculates by air flow and temperature and load how much psi it "thinks" it has. Common mistake (one fo the main reasons the car runs so stupid rich from the factory at higher rpms). My factory boost gauge hit 14 psi all the time too when I was stock. The reason 9 psi in a vr-4 feels different than 9 psi in an eclipse is because of displacement. you have to remember, the eclipse engine is 2/3 the size of the vr-4. the vr-4 will always have more punch behind it per boost than an eclipse because of that (plus the awd gets the power to the ground. that is a wierrd feeling to get used to also). if the car spun all 4 wheels across an intersection.................it probably wasn't stock...........adn it surely didn't have a stock clutch. I couldn't even get my tires to spin at all with the stock clutch. realistically, from what I have seen in my car 'though. the gauge in my car usu. hits the 14 mark at about 9.5 psi on average.

Got to drive a 92' VR4 one time and it hauls ass hehe but it feels like a boat, I could probably outcorner that beast in a twisty track with my RS though, highway battle I'd get burned sooo fast :P

The stock boost gauges suck ass they move all over the place, hard to read, and give inaccurate readings. That's why they say when you get a boost controller you NEED to have a real boost gauge.
