I'm selling my '68 Dodge Dart and should be getting a fat tax return very soon, somewhere in the neighborhood of $2000-$3000 TOTAL. I'm BONE stock right now, for planning sake, let's say all I've got is $2500, what should I get?

Which kit would be the better deal all around, which kit has EVERYTHING I would need? I basically need opinions here, please gimme pros and cons on both (Star and HRC), which kit seems more complete (i.e. better fuel pump, better/bigger intercooler, better BOV, do they both come with EGT's?)

Anyway if anyone could list everything I would need to buy ahead of time so I have everything I need at the time of install.

BTW I understand I should do a compression test, and a 3" exhaust is a must. Oh and I've got 53K miles on a 97 RS, manual :P. I'll be doing a lot of reading tonight on old posts.

Hahn kit is more suited for the beginner and daily street user. neither come w/ an egt gauge. star stage one doesnt come w/ a bov nor an FCD(which you will need since you are 96+) which you would have to get. HRC comes w/ full instructions. I am more for star because i like the turbo. but HRC's is nothing short of a GREAT Turbo.

3 inch exhaust isn't a must, i still have my 2.25 in. catback and it's fine, as long as it's mandrel bent. i agree that for just a beginner, daily driveable turbo car, you'd be wanting to lean more towards the HRC. faster spool up, great instructions, customer service, blah, blah....the search would really help u out on this topic.

If you choose to buy the hahn stage 1 you wont need to do anything except order and get an EGT gauge (technically you dont have to do that right away. I and most dont get it right away but you probably want to).

If you choose to buy a Star stage 1 as above plus $70 for the BOV upgrade and $50 for a boost gauge. You dont need a FCD if you have a OBDII because it comes with a MAP bypass valve. If you want a FCD add $80 from www.splitsecond.com (I think thats the adress). You should be able to get a Star with BOV and boost gauge for $2000 if you shop right.


If you choose either stage 2 your money is already sucked up so just enjoy the turbo, you wont need anything except the as mentioned EGT.

Now what you really need to do:

1) Compression test
2) Fuel filter
3) oil pan gasket
4) tools and other sh*t like automotive teflon tape, oilpan gasket sealer ect if you are doing the install youself.

Exhaust, super sound BOV and things with blinky lights may help but dont need to be added right away.

BTW tax time= turbo for me too last yr. I said this yr I will get my girl an engagement ring and propose but now that this yr is here already that aint gonna happen cause the VW need a new pair of shoes and get closer to the ground. next yr I'll get the engagement ring and next month I'll at least order a turbo manifold so I can get started on my re-turboing of the talon.
