I am wondering, (more like making sure) that the automatic transmission will be able to hold up with a turbo kit installed. I will be Stage1 HRC here in a few months running 5psi, and If something goes wrong, I'm not going to be able to afford to fix a major problem. Even if I go stage2, and boost 8psi, would the transmission hold up alright?

I have a transmission temperature gauge up, and will have a heavy-duty transmission cooler before I have the turbo. Should I be worried?

Joe Rangel (SHOGUN) has been running 10+ PSI on his auto for about 5 months with no issues. He usually runs 18PSI, but he's having boost control issues, and so is now at a "low" setting of 10PSI.

my best advice is to make sure you have the resources to cover a tranny fix before jumping into a turbo kit. You'll never know what might happen. Just look at Anton and Oracle...they busted theirs while NA, but on the other hand you got Joe running 10psi + and still holding up.

It's your choice. just be smart and plan ahead.

How much ever T.J.(local hook up around here) would charge you. I'm guessing he might do something like that for ~$300. (maybe more)

To do a full conversion, you're goin gto need a lot mor than just a tranny though...just a lot of little parts as well...like a clutch pedal! :-) (hahah)

from what i've heard (frome the other Ryan i believe), we have the same tranny as most chryslers, including the v6 models. And i know we got the same $$$$ they put in the minivans, which chrysler knows aren't "meticulously(sp) maintained" and need to have some strong torque to push the kids and (ahem) soccer balls/equipment :).

However, you never know when somethings going to @#$R up on you :(
But i think with the precautions you're taking, if the thing does blow its not cause the turbo

Price on a auto tranny or a manual tranny? Hell, I'll sell you my stock AT tranny cheap after this weekend (it'll be sitting collecting dust) but that sucker is heavy and it'd be a pain to ship. I got my manual tranny for the swap for $400. It took a while to find though. I got the rest of the parts for the swap for another $420.

But I think with the precautions your taking (tranny cooler and temp gauge) that you'll be just fine. Just try and keep the fluid temp down.

400 bucks? Dude....help me. Hehe. I'm lookin for a 5 speed right now actually. I shot the final drive gear from my diff right through the bottom of the tranny case and onto the track at Houston Racewaypark :D Hey Dino, lemme know if you would host a few pics for me. well like they said mines held up for about 5 months so far. ive drove at @18psi for a couple of weeks then 15 now 10..boost leaks by blowing off my silicone hoses and other small things but its holding up.. im gonna run 20-22psi at the WIC in houston so if it doesnt blow up there then ill let ya know =-). ill try not to pull a Pure Ray

It isn't that hard to install if u can get a transmission jack. just gotta put 6 bolts in, and hook everything back up.

I blew a 5-speed N/A tranny of my 97 eclipse before I got my 98. I blew it from downshifting though. I was way harsh on that car. Needless to say I dont downshift too often when racing anymore because my 98 is so much faster with the boost I dont even have to. I got a used tranny from junk yard with 2 year warrenty for $600. I paid $100 extra for that 2 year warrenty. Where I got it, they come with a 6month warrenty. I talked to a shop and they said around $300 to take fuxed tranny off and another $300 to put the new one on. I did it myself and it was a complete PAIN IN THE ASS. A LOT HARDER THAN THE TURBO INSTALL. (I had instructions with the turbo) =]
